JUST WHAT I NEED!

So yesterday i went shopping all day with my mother in law, she said she had a rash on her stomach which she believed to be hives. She was going crazy scratching all day. So later on last nite, the rash started to get painful, and burn. I took her to the hospital and she has SHINGLES! They said it is contagious, and of course we touched thruout the day. But that since i had chicken pox i should be okay. Great, so today i called my OB and they said there is a slim chance i could get it but to avoid her now at all costs, and just watch for any skin changes i may see!! Chat Icon Just what i need now! I just pray nothing happens!! wish me luck....

Re: JUST WHAT I NEED!

My Dad had Shingles for my wedding and no less all over his face. He got it from his eye surgeon so it was so painful and a horrible spot. The worse thing for me was that it take about 2 weeks to show up so my entire house was all sweating out having a fresh case of shingles for the wedding.

I want to add that I never had the chicken pox nor had my brother so my mom was terrified neither of us got it and also no one else like my mom or husband got it either and we lived with my father in the same house. So I would hope you are in the clear.

How far along are you? I know at certain times in the pregnancy it is better then others to get the chicken pox/shingles.

Hopefully you will be fine, just try not to even worry and I hope she feels better soon. They are very painful and the pain lasts a long time!

I had shingles. Don't ask me how the hell I got them. I never gave them to anyone in my family.

The day Andrew was born, my MIL came to the hospital to visit, but she was her usual late self adn Andrew had already been taken back to the nursery for his jaundice bloodwork. Thank God because she called me the next day to say she had shingles!! Chat Icon I was so happy she didn't come into contact with the baby, and my doc said the contact with me was fine since I had chicken pox. THe good thing was is that I didn't have to let my MIL see Andrew until he was almost a month old!!

My father had shinngles. You can get it only ifg you have the chicken pox virus in your system ( msot likely b/c you had it as a child)

Shingles develop when your imune system is compramised ( and you may not even know it) .
If someone has shingles, they can give soemoen else chicken pox, not shingles. If you have already had chicekn pox, you should be ok, but there are cases where people do get chicken pox more than once in there life.
