our three legged cat that chills in our yard
Stubby the stray who we just took in seems to have a friend that she finds and brings back every so often. I have been leaving food out for her but I am unsure if she is someone's pet and I am not sure if i am up for another cat yet. She is spayed (ear clipped) and has a missing leg.
She is friendly but scared if you make sudden moves. She got in today when I was letting stubby in and freaked out when i closed the door so i let her back out. She is still sitting on the porch FREEZING.

Not sure what to do on this one.

oh no! stubby must have put the word out the other cats with missing parts. seriously, poor kitty! i would think he is a stray since otherwise he'd probably be home rather than on your porch on a day like today. oh boy...i see how people can end up with 5 cats. i don't know what to say...i know my mom's neighbor put up a little tent for the cat she takes care of in the neighborhood.

Re: our three legged cat that chills in our yard
we were going to keep her but she freaked out when we finally got her to come in, then stubby bitched slapped her i few times. No claws just with her paw hit her a few times - she kept doing it so i said okay this isn't going to work.
I just don't get it, stubby brings her to the porch, we try to let the cat in (takes us about 15-20 mins of gaining trust to have her come in) for this cat to freak out then stubby beats her up (strange animals) - then stubby wouldn't go near us for 20 mins and tried to bite us if we pet her.
I really wish i knew what went on in these creatures minds.

If you do want to attempt to bring the stray in, one suggestion would be to place your cat in a crate (or place her on a restrained leash) and allow the stray to sniff your cat (safely) and take in the smells of your home.
We did this between my dog and my ILs dog b/c my ILs dog growled at Daisy at first. Once they had this arrangement for a few visits, the two of them are best buds.
Your cat is being territorial about you and its home to the stray. It's all about personal possession.

Re: our three legged cat that chills in our yard
If her ear is tipped it means she is a feral cat from a managed colony. In general these cats have never been owned & never been in a house and would be very scared to come in and would feel trapped. You are totally OK feeding her because she is spayed, and I think it's a wonderful thing for you to do! I have a soft spot for 3 legged cats. The 3 legged cat from my colony died last Saturday and I am still so upset over it

Re: our three legged cat that chills in our yard
maybe that is why (3 legged cat) she doesn't like to be indoors with the door shut - she has never been owned. I will leave food out and say hi and be humble with that. If she needs help ever then i will assist. I figured a nice warm house would make her happy but she wasn't. Thanks all!
