Lobster question...
So...DH wants us to bring steak and lobster to our friends for NYE (long story, but I'm going to indulge him based on the reason)...the steak I've got covered and we thought we could get lobsters down there at the farmer's market, but now it most likely will not be possible...I know they sell them at Fairway...thoughts on buying them just before we leave, having them get them ready for cooking, and transporting them? Thanks for your patient answers to these questions! :)

If you are going to buy live lobsters then just talk to the store where you purchase them and tell them you are transporting them and how should it be done. My initial thought would be to bringer a cooler packed with ice and put them in there. But I could be wrong.

Re: Lobster question...
How long is the drive? If we are going to have lobsters I usually buy them in the morning, and refrigerate until that night with no problems. If it's just a few hours keep them in a cooler with some ice (but maybe no directly on top of the ice).

We HOPE the drive will be 3-3 1/2 hours..we are going to Delaware...should I keep them live or have them get them ready for cooking? I don't even know how to cook lobsters!

I don't eat them, but my mother just boiled a huge bot of water and then dropped the lobsters in the water and cooked them for how many minutes IDK.
If your're going to DE, why don't you buy them fresh down there or along the way at a local seafood shop. I'm sure your friend could offer a suggestion that is on your way.
Make sure the steak is packed in ice in a cooler on the way down to stay chilled until ready to cook.

Just put them in a large pot of boiling water (I usually add some Old Bay to the water). Once the water returns to a boil cook them for ~ 15 minutes.

We don't know where to buy them down there and we want to surprise them...asking them where to get them would ruin the surprise....thanks for the cooking suggestions!!
