Has anyone ever made thumbprint cookies?

How the heck do you keep them from flattening out while baking?

I made them last night, and they didnt keep their shape...they completely flattened out. I followed the recipe reviews that said to put it in the freezer for 15 minutes before baking them, but that didnt work either. They still flattened.

Any advice? Chat Icon

Did you make the wells before baking?

I use the back of the teaspoon measuring spoon to make the wells and they never come out flat.

No advice, the same thing happened to me today. Chat Icon I don't know why; I've always been successful in the past.

I always refrigerated for atleast an hr or two prior to baking. You also need to make the well prior to baking.

Did you use butter instead of margarine? I noticed in the past that margarine tends to flatten out more.

Make sure the pan is cool prior to making 2nd batches.

Best of luck!

Could it be bad baking soda/powder so its not rising?

Re: Has anyone ever made thumbprint cookies?

Basically I made the wells, put them in the freezer, then poured warm melted preserves into them before I baked them. I think the problem might have been the warm preserves. Next time I'll put them in BEFORE I freeze it, and see if that works.

thanks!

I always make the wells before baking and then fill them with preserves right after they come out of the oven, not before.
