Discolored Dog Nose
I have a Boxer who is a little over a year old. His nose is usually black, but I'm noticing that it's becoming a light shade of brown. It sort of looks like he dipped his nose in his food, but that's definitely not the case. He is very healthy otherwise, so I really don't think he's sick.
Any idea what could cause this? Could it be the temp change? TIA!

Re: Discolored Dog Nose
I remember reading in a training book that plastic bowls can discolor a dog's nose. Don't know how true that is though. Does your pup use plastic bowls?

Thank you! That's actually the only explanation I can find online, but he eats out of stainless steel bowls. It's very bizarre bc he's been using these bowls for about 4 months now.

Re: Discolored Dog Nose
Some yellow lab owners I know have already started mentioning that their dog's usual black nose is turning pinkish or liver-colored in the cold. Apparently, it's common in the winter.

Re: Discolored Dog Nose
I don't think anything is wrong. I only say that b/c we've noticed that for the last few years with Daisy. In the winter, her nose stays dark and in the spring/summer, her nose gets very light - almost freckly. It could be sun exposure

Re: Discolored Dog Nose
My dog has a pink nose but when she sticks it in the snow I notice it is even lighter pink than normal! But it comes back inside.
I guess she's the opposite of me - my nose gets red in the cold, hers gets lighter!

Re: Discolored Dog Nose
I have a yellow lab. When she was a baby her nose was black but now it is pink. I can't remember if it was her vet or her trainer that told us it turns lighter once they start digging and putting their noses in the dirt.
