DH's first 'shot' - this is going to be a long week (updated)

First off i feel badly that DH is going to have to give me these shots. He has NO clue.

I really wish the nurse had let him do it with her instruction yesterday. This morning was his first go at it and OMG what a mess. It didn't really hurt persay but he was trying to go slowly when you just need to jab it in. There wasn't that much blood when the nurses do it. I guess we really weren't prepared because my pj's are a mess now :( UGH.

At least another 6 days of this. At least on Tuesday i can have it done while i'm at the dr's office. Sorry about this, just wanted to share.

UPDATE:

Another day closer to my test!

Today's shot went MUCH smoother than yesterday and NO blood! I might even let him do it again tomorrow so i don't even have to wait at the dr's office when i go for my level checks.

I'm in your boat. I cannot give myself a shot at all, so DH had to. The nurse showed him, but he didn't get to try. He did however take one of the needles when we got home and practiced on a fruit to see how hard and fast he'd have to jam it in. I have to admit, that helped. It's still not as fast and easy as the nurse, but certainly much better. He seemed fearless about it, whereas I'd be freaking out if the tables were turned.
Try the fruit, maybe it'll help.

Hopefully we are done with Gonal-F and moving on to Lovenox injections soon. I'm tired of them already.

Good luck gals!!!! I do my own shots, but I like to do them slow and steady, not jamming it in.

Hope the week of shots flies by quickly!

He will get better at it. My Dh was nervous at first as well but now hes almost a pro and it BARELY hurts- just make sure if its an IM shot to pull back the plunger on the syringe to make sure you dont see blood... if you do that means you hit a nerve and you need to take out- put a new needle in and then re-do. It takes a little bit of practice but you will get it down packed!!! Good luck1

Aww, it sounds like he is just trying to make it less painful for you. He'll get better at it once the initial anxiety goes away.

Good luck getting through the next few days! Chat Icon

Re: DH's first 'shot' - this is going to be a long week

This is an IM shot so there's almost NO way that i'd be able to do it myself LOL. Honestly it didn't hurt as much as i thought it would it was just the blood we were unprepared for.

Athee the pulling out part freaks me out the most! We knew about it but he didn't do it this time. I think he was too nervous about hurting me.

I would think you would know if a nerve was hit?

Bleeding is if you hit and entered a blood vessel (there are big ones in there). You really don't want to give yourself the medication into the bloodstream.

If you hit a nerve with the needle it will hurt. If you inject meds into the nerve...it hurts a lot worse as you are injecting.

I've hit blood vessels,,, meaning get lots of bleeding and bruising after...bu never got frank blood when withdrawing the syringe plunger while the needle was mid-booty.

My DH was a wreck the first time he did mine but he did a really good job so got more confident. I agree that they go too slow, but I know they don't wanna hurt us. One night we had this gushing bleeder that we both just had to LOL, he pulled out the needle and a stream of blood shot across the bathroom and kept spurting for 5 mins. He was literally kneeling with his face in my azz trying to get the thing to stop. Chat Icon
