I hate that one more than anything because with my son I was sooooo stressed about TTC and I got pregnant right away. Then this time around, I thought it would happen so easily and I didn't stress it at all. A year later I am finally pregnant thru IVF. And you know what, I can NOT even tell you how much I have been stressing about IVF! It was so bad that my husband actually researched the affects of stress and IVF and it turns out that with IVF at least, there is no correlation to success rates and the amount of stress you do or do not have.
I have also been told to "go on vacation and you will get pregnant" and "why don't you just get drunk and have s*x. then you will get pregnant." People who have never experienced infertility just have no idea how insensitive comments like these are!

My coworker whom I really like.
I really think that sometimes people have the best intentions but they just don't realize how much these comments sting. they don't realize that they are putting the blame on you and the choices that you make in your life, instead of realizing that this is something that is completely out of your control in most cases!

She meant no harm but was trying to get me to see it another way.
I told my doc that and he looked at me and said, right, then no one would have kids.

Ignore this comment, even though you said she's a close friend.
I've heard people complain about insurance covering IVF since it's 'an elective procedure.' I bet these people are the first to change their minds when they're in our shoes.

This is one of my least favorite "explanations" for infertility because it trivializes IF as a medical issue and places blame on the couple (particularly the woman and her lifestyle). Try not to let comments like that bother you...

OMG! I am soooooo sick of hearing that! I have a very stressful job and am just an anxious person by nature. People say it all the time to me and I seriously can't stand it!
I am sure I could use less stress, but that is a super insensitive comment. People just don't get it....
I'm sorry you had to deal with that!

I know some people (a friend and my sister) who feel they got pregnant after some stressors lifted. But both of those people know that my situation is so different (IF) and that reducing stress makes me happier during IVF, but doesn't mean I am going to get preggo.
Your friend meant well, but probably has not walked a mile in your shoes.

really? As if I elected to undergo countless blood tests sonograms, sticking needles in my gut, have side effects and suffer the crippling disappointment when it all doesn't work.
Yep, that's elective.
