Are the Dysons worth the money or are there other good alternatives?
I vaccume up -

Re: Recommend your vaccumm
I know alot of people love the dyson, I personally HATE mine... between my long hair and the hair from my lab and golden retriever i have to clean out the brushes on the bottom a good 5 times a week.... also, if you have to use the hose and tool for the stairs, which if you have short stair cases is fine, but mine flight of stairs is long so i have to juggle the hose, the tool, the vaccume, and my balance all at one time... for the 500.00 i spent on it i would have rather have gotten two other cheeper pet vacs and kept one on each level

For $150, I have the bissell pet hair eraser... the thing is wonderful... hepa filter... picks up the finest of particles... has like 3 tools to pick up pet hair... it's a bit bulky but its wonderful! Ive looked up reviews on it and Ive read alot oF people saying its better than a dyson and much cheaper

Yes I agree the dyson stinks. My parents have 2 large dogs and they are long haired. Vaccuuming is a pain because all the hair gets tangled on the tube with the bristles and they actually have to use a scissor to cut them out. and they bought the animal which is i believe designed for pets!
also what I dont like about it, is the way you clean it. you take the canister out and have to release it into the pail and the dust goes everywhere. Also if you ave animals the hair and dust would get stuck at the top around a tube in their and you have to stick your hand in their to pull it out.. i find it messy and dirty!
I have a kenmore progressive. Personally I love it. It is easy to switch from carpet to flooring. We have a cat you just press the button with your foot to detach the carpet part and slip on an attachment for floors and it sucks up the cat litter no problem. all the atachments are under a lid on the vaccuum.
this is the one I have
sears kenmore progressive
My parents had one like I had for the dogs and it worked fine, but it broke and decided to try the dyson

Re: Recommend your vaccumm
we have the dyson (the yellow one, all floors i think?) and a dog and a cat and I love it. this is my third vacuum, third brand and its my favorite!
we also have the dyson Pet Dustbuster that we leave near the catbox for litter or use on stairs and it works really well. Only complaint is the battery life.

Re: Recommend your vaccumm
I have the purple Dyson 07 (I think that is the model#) I LOVE it.
I have 2 indoor cats and 2 boys, lol.. I vacuum every morning for the cat hair and the litter and any crumbs my toddler boy will leave behind.
It picks up everything!!!!! It was making a weird noise one day and I called Dyson and he told me about a piece to open to see if anything was stuck in there and low and behold in a curvy pipe their was a pen and a cat toy. I can't believe I sucked up a pen,
ETA: I love it so much that I want to buy the handheld and a newer one. I want to get the Animal Ball

i actually have scissors attached to the dyson handle now because i have to cut it off the brush everytime i do our bedroom... mine is also the animal.... and i do agree that the dust gets everywhere when you clean it... i can tell you i now can disassemble the dyson in a few minutes, down to 15 parts....my mother has an electrolux canister and she loves it, she has a dog as well

Re: Recommend your vaccumm
We have a cheaper one b/c we live with hardwood almost everywhere (except where we live right now but it's only for a few months). It's the Eureka Boss and I think it was $160-ish at Sears.
If I were to live with carpet all the time I'd go with a Kenmore canister.

Re: Recommend your vaccumm
I like my meile. I've had it and abused it forever. When it dies, I will get another. I just got my daughter an apartment sized one and she loves it.
I also have an Oreck XL I bought a few years ago and while it's certainly powerful, I can't use it in my house because it picks up the ends and corners of all of my small area rugs and runners. When I tried it out I had to bend down to disentangle them every two seconds. I think it would be great on wall to wall carpets. So, I put it on Craigs List in the hope that someone else will buy it. It's been used all of ten minutes, if that.
