I wondered this myself...and found it just really has to do with how your body tolerates the changing progesterone levels...some people can get by without ever knowing levels are fluctuacting..
And then others like me were sick from 7 weeks until 14 :( I thought it would NEVER END but it did and now its actually the "fun" part of pregnancy.
Except the respiratory infection i'm dealing with!!

That's interesting. I was wondering myself, however why is it that each pregnancy can be different (e.g. my mom had m/s with me and not my brother?) Does your body's ablity to handle the change in levels change?
So far my body is handling things great and I'm soooo grateful!! I hope everyone feels better

Normally, implantation takes place the embryo attaches to the uterine lining, typically near the top. However if implantation occurs in the lower half of the uterine lining, morning sickness is likely to occur, due to the proximity of the stomach and intestines.
ok ok I made it up, but it sounded good to me......

This is what I read and was told as well -
I too was one of the 'lucky' ones that had M/S well into my 14th week - and while I feel 100x better now, I still have days where I feel a little queasy

Re: why some are sick and others aren't...
Here's something I found on line... Morning Sickness Causes Unfortunately, no one is exactly sure what causes morning sickness but it would seem that the cause is a combination of issues related to the chemical changes your body is going through. Those changes include rapidly increasing estrogen and progesterone levels, an enhanced sense of smell and excess stomach acids. It has also been suggested that stress and fatigue that commonly accompany pregnancy also play a role. One of the theories is that morning sickness is caused by the dominant hormone during pregnancy, progesterone. Progesterone has a "softening" effect on the muscles in the body. It is thought it helps prevent preterm labor by effecting the uterine muscles. It also effects other muscles, such as the stomach and intestines. The progesterone relaxes the workings of the whole digestive track which makes the elimination of bodily wastes slower which can lead to a slow emptying of the stomach which leads to excess stomach acids.
Another theory, and more widely accepted, is that morning sickness is caused by the buildup of hCG (human chorionic gonadotopin) in your system. hCG is produced after implantation takes place and continues to increase until about the 12th week of your pregnancy, at which point the levels of hCG starts to decrease. If you are lucky, this is when your morning sickness symptoms will start to decrease as well.
Morning sickness isn't all bad though. Recent studies have suggested that mothers who have morning sickness have fewer miscarriages so there IS a bright spot in the midst of your morning, or in come cases, all day miseries

Re: why some are sick and others aren't...
One of my friends had none with her son but was miserable with her daughter. I wondered if it was because of differing hormones. The two pregnancies were totally different.

I think it's so variable it's hard to tell. But I think B6 might help. I remember reading that somewhere...

I was taking B6 to help with the length of my Luteral Phase and the doctor told me to stop it once I got pregnant. I don't remember his reason though.
