LI MARATHON 2010
For those of you that are thinking about donig the LI Marathon or the half early registration before January 15th is available and it is only $50 for the full (which I cannot do) and $40 for the 1/2 which I will be attempting this year!

Re: LI MARATHON 2010
not my first full, but I'm doing the ING Georgia Marathon with a friend of mine that lives down there (first of three for this year). We are both going to try to qualify for Boston, so are going to try to pace each other.
It is the same weekend as the NYC half - otherwise I would have thought about doing that - March is a much better time of year than the summer when the NYC HM used to be. I guess that's why they need a lottery now (last year I think it was open for at least a few days)

Re: LI MARATHON 2010
Thanks for posting this! I am definately NOT ready for a marathon or a 1/2 but I REALLY want to try the 10k. I can currently run 4 miles so I should be able to do 10k by the time May comes around.

You will definatley be able to do the 10K by then! You still have plenty of time to train for the half!

I've never done more than a 5k race before so I think mentally I need to tackle and conquer the 10k first! Since this race is in May I am thinking maybe I can do a 1/2 in the fall. I still have ALOT of weight to lose but I know running will help me get there. Oh and BTW, You are one of my inspirations on this board (even though I have a lot more weight to lose than you did )

Re: LI MARATHON 2010
I'm definitely thinking about doing the half in May! But the farthest I've ever done in one run up until now is like 7 miles... do I have enough time to get up to 13? And since it's winter it will be pretty much all treadmill training I'm just afraid to sign up & then not be ready. It's very tempting though!!

I'm in the same boat, I'll be treadmill training all winter, which stinks! Originally my goal was to do a half by the end of the summer, but if I get my butt in gear I would love to do it in May!

Re: LI MARATHON 2010
Thanks for posting this. I've just decided to do the 5K, something I never would have thought of doing 3 months ago. I thought about the 10K but I'm not much of a runner so I figure this time around I'll do the 5K and maybe next year I'll shoot for the 10K.

Re: LI MARATHON 2010
Everyone who is hesitant to sign up, just go for it! It will start getting warmer in April just in time for a few longer runs! Go for it! I find if I sign up early, I dont back out bc I dont want to lose the $$!
Ok so I ran LI last year but I dont think I am doing it again! It was a great flat course but I dont want to repeat! I may do NJ half instead in Long Branch by the water!

Re: LI MARATHON 2010
I just signed up for the half!! I'm so excited and totally pumped to have this goal to look forward to. The most i've done is 6 miles, so this is going to be challenging. Glad I have time to train!

I just printed Hal Higdon's Half Marathon Training Program. Let's post our progress so we can help motivate each other!
I can't believe how far we've come in less than a year!

I also signed up for the half in May, this will be my first half and I'm so excited. However like most of you most of my training will be done on the treadmill until it gets a little warmer out.

I know I am going to follow the same program but I am also going to be running with my gym. They are starting a running program on Saturday mornings for people who are training for the half and full. I can't believe it either. Remember last year being nervous about doing the 20 minute run on the couch to 5k program!

I know!! I was telling someone the other day that at the start of it I thought, "no way can I run for 15 minutes without stopping!"
