So tell me about the drive from LI to Orlando?
Is it worth it to skip the money flying to drive instead, especially with a toddler?
Straight through or 2 days?
Whats the travel time?

Its not that bad but I never done it with a kid.. We done both straight or with a stop. If you do it with a stop you are able to do stuff that next day while if you dont I feel you get to your destination really tired and just want to go to bed
eta: Money wise I think it was less than $400 round trip including food, gas, hotel for the night and tolls

Re: So tell me about the drive from LI to Orlando?
i guess it depends on the toddler...
there's no way my kid would be fine for that drive...he hates the car seat just going down the street! lol
when i flew to florida, it was a hassle with him at the airport, but being there in 2.5 hours and he slept the whole way, was a dream compared to what i know i woud have endured driving.
so, i'd say it depends on your toddler

Re: So tell me about the drive from LI to Orlando?
We usually fly down but we did the drive 2 years ago with a toddler and a newborn and it was fine. We stopped of course but did a lot of night driving so we could do it in 2 days but still for a lot of stretch stops --very important for the toddler! My personal opinion is that if you can be away for 9 or 10 days it is worth driving but if you are only going for the week it makes much more sense to fly. Good luck!

I agree. We drive to Pittsburgh a few times a year which is about 7 hours and THAT's torture for DS so I can't imagine anything longer.

Re: So tell me about the drive from LI to Orlando?
I love roadtrips so i would say DRIVE. I was 8 months pregnant with a 2 year old and we went to the Keys from LI and it was fine. YOu will need to make a lot of stops though but there are plenty of places to stop. "Craker Barrel" stops are child friendly , varied menu, and low cost. your kid can walk around a lot. Then there is always the ever tacky "South of The Border" in SC/NC that kids love as well. messege me if you want and i can tell you some great places to stop if you have the time.

You can also drive to Philly and then take the car train (I think that's what it's called). You and your car ride the train down to Orlando.

Its not in Philly, but in Lorton VA just outside of washington DC, 5 hours from LI
Ive done this a couple times, many people travel with children, not sure how cost effectlive it is, as it can get pretty expensive depending on the time of year.
The train pulls out at 4pm sharp, and you arrive just 20 minutes outside orlando the next morning around 8am
FM if you want any more info

Just drove it for Christmas. About 17 1/2 hours door to door (from Manhattan).
I would never do it again. It was rough. But I'm not really a person who loves long car trips.

Re: So tell me about the drive from LI to Orlando?
Ive done it 2 summers in a row now and again this may with 2 kids. first summer my daugher was 16 months old, second summer she was 2 1/2 and my baby was 10 months old, I was pregnant driving the first time, it was no problem and the kids were great! It takes us 13 hours from east meadow to florence and then 11 to our destination- orlando and 13 to indian rocks beach. piece of cake. make it fun and stay in savannah if you can thats what we did last summer and did the city tour. oh we stopped a zillion times pee runs
