Removing IVY
How do you go about removing IVy? Our flowerbed in our yard is covered in IVY - My neighbor said there was something made that you sprinkle on top and it kills the ivy. IS this true?

I'm not familiar with that - I've heard you just need to rip it out by the roots. I have heard that you can cut things and spray straight white vinegar on them to help kill them off.

I read that you need to remove IVY from a tree before you remove the IVY from the ground.
I have a tree that we are going to have taken out - so After that is gone, I will have to get someone to remove the IVY - I hear it is a nightmare to do

I have this stuff all over my yard too and I can't wait to get rid of it...so I would like to know too....I am sure there is something you can spray on it to kill it.

if you cut the ivy at the base (near the stump of the tree) it will die & then you can have th tree removed We just used a weed whacker 
Oh & once the tree is removed, then you can dig up the roots of the ivy. Good luck, ivy is some very determined stuff

you can actually pour bleach on it, but it is not 100% effective & if you have animals around it could very well hurt or kill them

You have to kill it at the root - unfortunately whatever you use to kill the ivy will likely kill whatever else is on the ground.
At our old house, DH just kept using Round Up on it, when it was dead we then took up the arduous task of ripping it out.
For those of you that may have it crawling up your home. Be especially careful when removing it - as it will draw out the moisture from concrete and brick causing foundation walls, brick chimneys, etc. to crumble.

The area where it is covers an entire flower bed - it is a long area.
The tree will be removed, and so will 6 other trees in that flower bed too.
Just cannot afford that right now
I cannot use Bleach, because I have a dog and my neighbor in the back has a dog too

In order to preserve your flowers, you are probably going to have to pull it out by hand. Any pesticide you put down will also kill your flowers and will be harm your pets.
