Frustrated with colorist - WWYD? (long)
So I dyed my hair at home Monday night. Same color I always use. For some reason it turned out very reddish, so I made an appointment at Cactus in Commack to get a single process on Tuesday night. I did explain to them WHY I was there, so they wouldn't think that was my natural color, and to check to make sure I didn't have to wait a few days to get it colored again.
I told the stylist what color I wanted - very dark brown, almost black. She brought out a whole bunch of swatches and I had to show her what I meant. She totally did not think I meant really, really dark until I pointed a swatch out to her.
In retrospect there was probably a shade closer to what I really wanted but she wasn't very helpful. I am just glad she was able to help me figure out that I wanted an "ashy" shade as opposed to a "golden" shade (which comes out red on me and doesn't go with my skin tone). Now I'm not so sure that's right. She did the color like I am used to - on the roots for 15 minutes and then all throughout the hair, wait another 20 minutes and wash.
As soon as my hair was washed I could see the color looked nice (not as dark as I wanted but still nice) EXCEPT for at the roots which are still a weird golden shade! I am so frustrated right now. I went over to her right away to show her and all she said was that she put a lot of "ash" into the color so it wouldn't be golden at all. I told her I would wait a couple of days to see if styling it made any difference (I had to get home at this point) and if there was a problem I would go back.
So, this morning it's still weird at the roots. I want to get it fixed but I am so short on time and I do not want to go back there, or at least not to the girl I used yesterday. What should I do? Speak with a manager? I guess the crux of my issue is that I really didn't feel like she understood me in the very beginning when I explained the color I wanted to her, and what I wanted to change about my hair.

I would definitely call back & speak with the manager. Just tell them that you are happy with the color, but there is still a issue at the roots. Any reputable salon manager will see the problem & would want their customer leave if they aren't happy with the service they recieved.
What I would do if find out the day the colorist isn't there & make an appointment with someone else to fix the problem.

I would go back and speak to the manager and explain the whole situation.
That said, I have heard that when you're pregnant, your hormones affect the way your hair color turns out, which might explain why you had such a weird result to begin with. (I have no idea if this is TRUE about the hormones affecting the color since I'm not sure how that works, but I have heard it a lot).
