Dog Spayed

Lulu is getting spayed on Wed. and oick her up later that evening. I feel so bad doing it to her but I know its for the best. Can anyone tell me how she will be? I am sure drugged up the 1st day when she comes home. Am I going to have to bring her to take the stiches out or will they desolve? Any info would be great

Re: Dog Spayed

She'll probably be pretty groggy and out of it, and tired from the stress. Try to keep her on a leash when you take her out to limit the running at jumping for a little while.
Our puppy had glue and did not need to go back to get stitches out.

Re: Dog Spayed

I just took my little girl to get spayed. She was very groggy and slept the entire car ride home. She was able to walk and was in fairly good spirits.

We gave her a little water and offered her some food. I don't think she ate the night we brought her home.

She was happy to see our other dog but we couldn't let her play. We tried to put the e-collar on her but she would not move from the position that she was in when we got the collar on. THe girl at the vet told us that when we were watching her we can put a tshirt (ours on her to keep her from going at her stitches.)

For the next few days I needed to keep her from playing too much and jumping. By day 3 I let her do what she normally did bc there was no stopping her. She was getting her meds everyday and her appetite was back by day 2 although she did sleep a bit more for a day or 2.

The stitches she received were dissovable and she healed perfectly. You shouldn't need to go back. Good luck to you and your furbaby. I think this will be harder on you than her. I cried walking out of the office when we dropped her off. I was miserable till the vet called to say she was out of surgery and she could come home that nite. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm bringing Maggie in next week and they're keeping her overnight - is that normal?

Re: Dog Spayed

I always heard females were kept overnight. However, my vet didn't keep my baby over night. I was told that they tend to keep them overnight if they are older, if the vet has the room, or just because that is how they operate. It isn't always a bad thing. It can be good because it allows them to keep a close eye on your pup overnight.

Re: Dog Spayed

Thanks everyone for the info. She is home and doing great. She is just resting and taking it easy. Already ate dinner now watching me make stuff for Turkey day. I am so happy everything turned out good I have to bring her back next week, we have to get a few staples removed he wasn't happy with the way she was stiching up and didn't want her to have a big scare. She also got a micro chip and a pedicure and her ears cleaned. Mini spa day LOL Thanks again
