Jogging-What is a good time for a mile?
I am new to this (as I have posted lol).
Today I jogged 2.5 miles in 33 minutes (I put the speed down a few times).
Is this good? Average ? for a beginner? (not new to exercise just jogging/running).
WHat time should I shoot for?
I want to kick it up to 3 miles tomorrow TIA

I am not sure what anyone would consider good time for running a mile but I run 3 miles in 31 minutes! Everyone runs at different paces. My advice to you is to try your best to complete 3 miles and then work on your time when you are comfortable running 3 miles! Keep going you are doing great!

Re: Jogging-What is a good time for a mile?
I think that is a great beginning time for someone who exercises and is just starting to run. I have the outlook that I can only work on one thing at time....if you are going to try and bump up your mileage then I wouldn't worry about time. And if you are going to work on speed then I usually throw the mileage out the window. That's just me.
That being said, when I first started running (long ago) I was running a 12 minute mile but over a long period of time I eventually got down to about an 8.5 minute mile. I am just getting back into running after not having run for years and I am running about an 10.5-11 minute mile. I, personally, am happy with that for myself right now.
ETA: Keep it up!!!

Re: Jogging-What is a good time for a mile?
When I finished the couch to 5 k program I was running a 12 min/mile pace, now I am down an 11 min/mile pace. Sometimes I can do a 10:45 min/mile but not all the time. For now I am trying to work on my pace and hopefully get down to a 10 min/mile pace. In the spring I want to work on getting my mileage up.

I think you're doing great!!! Especially since you are just starting out getting into running! It's hard to say what a "good" time is because what's a good time for me, might be considered slow by another runner. I do 9-minute miles now, which I'm happy with, but always am trying to improve my endurance and speed. Keep it up!!

I could have written this myself! I run 11 min miles on the treadmill but averaged about 10:40 for my first 5K
To the OP- I wouldn't worry too much about your pace yet. Just get the mileage to where you want to be and then you can work on your times after that. Also, your pace will naturally speed up over time. Good luck!

Re: Jogging-What is a good time for a mile?
There is no right answer. Even elite runners slow down by minuteS/mile when they do a recovery run. But I think that doing 2.5 miles (however long it takes) is great and a step in the right direction.
If you want to get technical, your heartbeat is a better measurement. Different heartrates (and it's a percentage, so it's also a not a general answer) help you improve in different areas.

Re: Jogging-What is a good time for a mile?
You should not be worrying about your time at all right now. Running 2.5-3 miles is an amazing start. Focus on putting the miles in and in time you will get stronger and more efficient and notice your min/mile decrease. If you focus too much now on going faster you can injur yourself which would be very discouraging in the beginning.
I started running years ago and was at a 10min/mile pace. Today a few years later I run about a 8min/mile pace depending on the distance. The more miles I run the slower I go.
That is a great start...just enjoy the run and don't worry about the time!

I assume this is inside/treadmill?
Like everyone my mile is faster on the treadmill as opposed to outside

Re: Jogging-What is a good time for a mile?
I think it's more important for fitness how LONG you can run. I'd ignore how long it takes for now and just focus on running further. Great job though! I wish I could run but my knees hurt too much.

Re: Jogging-What is a good time for a mile?
Listen, I'm slow. I won't lie. But I look at it like this. It's NOT sitting on the couch. So however slow or fast you go, you are GOING!
