I have one more couch to 5k run to go...do you think I will be ready to run a race Dec 6?
I don't think I'm up to 3 miles yet since I have an 11 min mile. Do you think less than 1 month is enough time to train? Any tips for how to train for a race and gain speed?

Yes - you will be so geared up at a race, you will run a little more a little faster!

You should be OK. How many miles are you up to now? Almost 3? Make your next run 3.5-4 miles and see what happens.

Yes you will do fine. Trust me you will do better than you expect. The energy at races is amazing and makes you want to keep going!

I think I'm at 2.5 miles. DH and I use google maps for our running routes. So we will add a little to our route and try to get there gradually over the next few weeks.

You can definitely do it. Once I finished the Couch to 5K I only had a few weeks before I was doing a 5K. Just up the amount of time you are running a little each week. I think I did 32:30 the first week after, then 35 the next. I was running about 11 min miles on the treadmill and it was fine. Good luck!!!

I am hoping that the fact that we run in an area with a lot of big hills will help me during the race.

I think you can definitely do it! adrenaline is powerful.
as for speed - try exactly what you are doing for C25K, but replace walking with jogging and jogging with hard running.
find a tree, pole, stop sign, or something in the distance and run hard to it...then recover for about the same amount of time or about half the distance.
you can do it with hills too. Run hard up the hills (up on your toes - focus on the top of the hill - you also get them over faster that way) and recover on the downhill

This is actually what I do now on my runs. I run faster on hills and recover downhill.
