Are there any cheap vets out there?
Hi... one of our cats has been peeing on the rug and just yesterday on a box. It happens every few weeks. I keep telling DH he needs to take her to the vet, but he keeps saying it's too expensive. (BTW we aren't 100% it is her but we are probably 90% sure) The last time a cat had an issue, it was $500 for the vet visit plus meds. Just outrageous and the cat still isn't well, anyway, we won't go there lol
I really want this cat to stop peeing where she shouldn't so does anyone know of a discount vet or a sliding scale vet? I'm sure we make too much to go to a low income of sliding fee type vet, but maybe there is someone who won't charge that much? Any ideas?

Where do you live and how far are you willing to travel? That would help people with suggestions.
I can't help with the rest, I'm not a cat owner and we ensure we always have money set aside for the pet fund, in case of emergency. If my dog had a medical issue, nothing would prevent me from going straight to the vet for treatment.

I am no help as I am in Florida, but I know my vet offer payment plans for expensive treatment. Maybe yours offer something like that.

We live in Huntington Station. I have no idea why he's being so stubborn with this... usually those cats mean a lot to him and I'm even encouraging him to go, but he's still refusing.
I think he might be scared something is REALLY wrong and doesn't want to face it.

from experince it's better to go sooner rather then later
I was not home one saturday and was not told that pokey my cat kept going to the litter box every 2 minutes
I could have taken him saturday and not only helped him sooner- but aviod a $1500 emergecy vet bill on sunday

I don't think there is such a thing as a discount vet, and if there was, honestly, I don't think I'd want to go there. Would you want to go to a discount dr. if you had a medical issue? If it is a problem that could turn out to be expensive, most vets will work with you if you cannot afford it. I know with my vet, he gives you different options. He tells you what is technically the "textbook" way of treating something, but then tells you what he would do for his cat, which is usually a less expensive treatment. If we had to do the expensive treatment, I know they would work out a payment plan with us. My vet is in Port Jeff, I don't know if you're willing to travel that far. I used to go to Commack Animal Hosp. when I lived there, and they were always very good, although their desk staff was sometimes rude on the phone That is a bit closer to you.

Re: Are there any cheap vets out there?
I use Towne Line Veterinary Group in Hauppauge and I LOVE them.
I don't know what an "average" vet bill is since we have only had our dog for a few months now, but we have taken her in twice and both times left with medication too and the total was never more than $80 I believe.
Of course this didn't involve anything that required any sort of surgery or anything like that.

Island Rescue is a "discount" vet. I'm pretty sure all the vets are volunteers from other vet practices. I've been using them and so has several of my family members. They are located in Bayshore right off the Southern State Parkway.

We use the vet at NSAL where we adopted both my cats. I am pretty sure that you can use their vet service even if you did not adopt through them!
You should give them a call and find out, they are very reasonably priced!
