What am I doing wrong??
I teach a kickboxing class, 2 spinning classes, a bootcamp class and an abdominal class spread out over 4 days a week and I'm STILL not losing any weight. In fact- I've gained a little weight over the past couple of weeks.
I'm trying to eat relatively balanced but i have no idea how many calories I should be eating- I figured around 1300 should be enough on days that I teach.
Anyone have any good tips?? I really would like to shed this excess weight. I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my life and I can feel the difference! I want to fit into my pants again!

Honestly, I don't think you're eating enough. If you don't eat enough it messes with your metabolism and causes you to store the fat more. Or maybe it's not how much you're eating, but what you're eating. What's your typical daily intake, food and drinks, like?

Re: What am I doing wrong??
I don't think you are eating enough either. I run 4-5 miles 3x a week, take a spinning class 2x a week and a body sculpting class 2x a week and I was eating 1200 calories a day and not losing (I'm 5'5 and 121). I lost inches not weight. I pumped it up to 1500 and I started losing weight. It also depends on WHAT you are eating too.

Re: What am I doing wrong??
As an instructor, if I just did the classes I taught it would not be enough. Your class cannot be your workout, if you're able to talk through it, it's not intense enough, hence you cannot possibly get enough of a workout while teaching. Did you just recently start teaching? I find that a lot of instructors gain weight at first because the give up their workouts thinking the classes they teach will suffice.
Also, if I ate 1300 calories on days I taught I would pass out! I would up that to about 1500-1600, still low enough to lose weight, but high enough to support activity. Make sure your calories are coming from the right sources and that your diet is balanced and you eat throughout the day, not just 3 lrg meals.
I usually do extra cardio either before or after I teach and that helps a lot!

Re: What am I doing wrong??
I thought m,aybe it was that I was eating too late because I'm not getting home until 8/9pm and then I eat dinner.
I'm going to try adding stuff to my routine. I think I'm going to ask DH for a heart rate monitor for christmas just to see where I'm at.
Its just weird though, when I eat more calories I gain. When I eat less calories I gain. I really don't know where I'm supposed to be. I'm a solid 10lbs heavier than I've ever been before in my life and I'm staying there.
I get what you're saying about teaching classes not being enough but its gotta be worth SOMETHING!!! I've been teaching for almost 5 years. My classes are nuts. I'm not teaching yoga or some kind of total body class, I'm teaching crazy cardio classes. Even when I added running to my workouts I barely saw a difference.
Who can I talk to about my diet? Idk how many calories are right for me

Try writing down what you eat for a few days. You may be eating a lot more calories than you think. Also, are you eating the right foods? I have a major sweet tooth and when I indulge itmore than I should (like I have been since halloween) I tend to gain weight.

That's a good idea about the food journal. I think I might start doing that. Especially if I go to a nutritionist I can show them what I've been eating. Maybe it'll help tweak some things.
I do have a sweet tooth but honestly I've been trying to satisfy it with fruit lately.

Re: What am I doing wrong??
Are you drinking tons of water?
also what exactly are you eating? Are you eating veggies at least twice a day? I find that sticking to high protein and veggies works for me. Forget 100 calorie packs and granola bars, they are wasted calories. I think you mentioned you tried southbeach? How did that go?
I say you need to shock your body in some way. Hmmm. What are you eating every day and what time are you eating? Give us your menu for an average day!

Re: What am I doing wrong??
also, this is a personal questions but how old are you?
I noticed that as of recently it is hard to keep my weight maintained, ugh. Even through marathon training I noticed the scale going up! I think it just gets harder and harder!
PS - never knew you taught classes, how awesome!

Re: What am I doing wrong??
This is what I've logged today so far from Spark people... I've also started a food journal. I figured it would help if I went to the nutritionist anyway.
This is a rough estimate from them anyway. I plan on going home and having either some soup (200 calories) or an eggwhite omlet

Ok, my guess here is you are eating too many carbs and not enough protein and fat! I think the fact that your diet, while it isn't bad, isn't balanced and that may be throwing your metabolism off. And unless you weigh only 100lbs, you aren't getting enough protein, especially since you workout a lot, and that will significantly effect your metabolism. Trying looking up a guideline from where your calories should be coming from and that should help regulate your metabolism.

ITA. I would replace the frozen waffles with eggs in a pita, try to eat another piece of fruit during the day (like an apple and the banana instead of just the banana), and include more protein at lunch (and if you are making a salad, you can throw lots of veggies on it, i always include broccoli and tomatoes, sometimes red and green peppers, corn, black beans, etc.). If you can't find time to eat dinner, pack "snack packs" in your purse -- a baggie of almonds, cheese, lite tunafish, fruit cup/applesauce cup, even a bag of cereal if you need something crunchy and sort of sugary tasting once in a while. You can even hard boil eggs and take them to work with you. There are days when I eat 3 meals a day at my desk, so I have lots of practice with portable healthy food!

Re: What am I doing wrong??
Jess You are not eating enough. I would try to eat every 2-3 hours, esp on the days you teach class. Also you need to get some more protein in - try almonds or peanut butter. I think you are ok with the waffles, because you are not overdoing the carbs. For dinner though I would have a lean meat with veggies. Good Luck and I hope you are enjoying married life as much as I am!! Lauren

Re: What am I doing wrong??
Just speaking from experience- When I don't eat anything with flour or sugar I loose weight.
Also, I try to go to bed hungry. Dinner is my smallest meal of the day and sometimes around 7-8pm I'm hungry. I ignore my hunger pain and it goes away usually in a half hour. I wake up in the morning just fine. No pain/ no gain. Lots of people have told me that it's the wrong way to eat bla bla bla... Im thin & they aren't so every-bodies different.

Re: What am I doing wrong??
I should have reqphased, that's not a TYPICAL day...that just happened to be yesterday. I ate dinner at around 9:30 and I had 5 pepper stuffed portabella mushrooms- mostly protein, very little carbs but it was just really late to eat dinner.
I get home from teaching and its 9PM. By the time im done cooking its 9:30 the earliest. I want to eat dinner with my husband but i think its just seriously hindering my ability to lose weight.
Today was more of a typical day:
Breakfast: Eggwhites with peppers and a sprinkle of lowfat chedder 8oz. OJ Green tea
Lunch: Progresso Chicken soup (200 calories) Banana
Snack: Apple Yogurt
Idk about dinner yet. I'm teaching bootcamp and ab attack tonight and I'm going to see if I can get there a little earlier to get some strength training in first.
I tried lowering my carb intake a while ago but I didn't really see any difference. Its also very difficult when your DH comes home with ice cream and eats it in your face. I almost kicked his a$$ last night

Re: What am I doing wrong??
I think your second menu is great!! But esp on the days that you are teaching a class I would add another snack - I live off almonds, an apple with peanut butter. Something that is not so heavy but has enough protein to fill you up!! And yes the ice cream from DH doesn't help - but I would count kicking his a@@ as part of a cardio workout
