how much food do I need?

I am having 21 people (9 kids and 12 adults) over next weekend for my DS's christening.

I was planning to make

Baked Ziti
Sausage and peppers
Big Salad
and have a cake

how much ziti and S&P should I make. I hardly ever entertain so I am not sure how much food I will need. THANKS Chat Icon

Re: how much food do I need?

Are you putting in a tray?

I def know a tray of each would work out and have leftovers.

Yup 2lbs in a tray, even add another 1/2 to be safe.

Sausage- 5lbs and keep in mind the peppers/onions and sauce will take up some room.

YUMMY! Now Im hungry again.

I am going to make the S&P in the crockpot to make it easier, I will then transfer it to the tray....Chat Icon

Do you mean 2 lbs as in two 16oz boxes of pasta (and an extra 1/2 pound, aka a 1/2 of another pasta box)?

If so, that doesn't seem like enough to me. I make a box and a half of ziti in a tray (smaller that the really big tray, but not the smallest tray) when I have family over and there's usually only 6 of us. Usually there's only a little left and it's not like everyone is eating multiple plates.

I agree... I could eat half a box of pasta myself if I wanted to! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would probably make two trays of ziti just in case. If anything you could always get cheap tupperware and send out leftovers!

I agree about the pasta- I would do at least a tray and a half and like two loaves of garlic bread or definately do the 2 trays- it will go!
