Which is easier to keep clean....

Do you find it easier to clean a "small" home or a "large" home?

I have a small home and find myself going crazy trying to keep everything tidy all the time. I don't have a lot of storage, so a lot of things are out in the open in my house.

Is a larger home easier to keep tidy because there are more places to store/hide things?

Your opinion?

Re: Which is easier to keep clean....

funny you ask. we just moved from a small 1 br apartment to a #3BR cape with a full basement. Unfortunately, my DH is a rat pack AND saves everything!! in the apartment he was frustrated because there was never enough storage. Now in the house there is more room to accumulate AND he still leaves his crap laying around Chat Icon you have to see our basement Chat Icon it seems like when you just buy a house everybody wants to give you stuff that they have.. well if its sooo great WHY do they want to get rid of itChat Icon of course DH never says no.

ok vent over. i guess the answer to your question is i guess a house. i always had things flying out of our closets because they were cramed in. but believe me your run out of space in a house too.

For us, a large house, definitely. We literally doubled the size of our house last year. Before, we never had room for anything, so things sort of accumulated in various locations. Now, we have a place for everything, and plenty of storage, so I can actually put things away.

Re: Which is easier to keep clean....

i think a larger house.

We just moved from a 1 bedroom small apartment to a 3 BR split with a half basement, a formal living room and a family room.

Our basement is cluttered already (only lived there for 3 weeks) BUT when you have appropriate space to put things, it's easier to keep things neat and tidy and makes it much quicker to clean. you don't have to pick up and move 3000 things first.

Re: Which is easier to keep clean....

We came from a medium sized 2 bedroom apartment and now we have a 3 bedroom & Attic for storage. It's just us right now and no kids and the closets are all full. Chat Icon Chat Icon It makes you start to realize that you have too much stuff when all the closets are full and the 2 guest rooms have all your crap in it. If we had two kids right now I wouldn't know what to do. So we have started, slowly but surely to get rid of stuff (give it away or sell it) and of course purge purge purge. I think it's key to most people at least once a year. You forget what you have and what you don't use anymore. So yes a bigger house is a good thing because you have more space (you think at least), but if you make the most out of the space you are given, you can stay really organized and less to clean up. Smaller houses are harder, but not bad. You just need to organize and keep organizing. And purge once or twice a year. HTH!Chat Icon
