Another Dog Owner question

Dog smell.

So we went to meet a 5yr old golden that we are hopefully going to adopt. I noticed the dog has that dog smell. KWIM? Does every dog have that smell and does it go away if you bathe them?

Murray never smells, I think its b/c of the kind of fur he has, being half poodle and not shedding.

This dog also has skin allergies so I was wondering if that had something to do with it. She said she bathes him every other week.

I just replied to your other post. Now it all makes sense with the allergies since the dog is a golden. My boy is a glab (golden/lab mix)

As far as the smell goes...what type of shampoo do they use on the dog? I use this oatmeal shampoo that I bought at target and it works great. He doesn't start to smell for about 3 weeks. Make sure you get shampoo for dry, itchy, flaking skin.

They also make medicated shampoos that may be worth looking into.

Maybe you should take the dog to a vet you trust for an exam before you commit.
