1 day in Paris -- what do you do?

Okay - for those who have been to Paris.

If you have less than one day - more like 10 hours in Paris...what would be "must see" places?

DH and I will be arriving by 10am at Gard du Nord by Eurostar, and have to be back at the station by about 7:30pm to return back. So we have just about 7.5 hours to see as much as we can.

What would you do with that time?
(This is for next month, in November)

TIA!

I wouldn't try to pack in too much.I kind of feel like I missed the point of Paris with the hectic pace.

I have done a 1 day in Paris trip...it was overnight but we only had about 1 day in total. We went Saturday morning, saw Madonna Saturday night and headed home Sunday lunchtime. To be honest, once we got to Paris we checked into our hotel and found a nice cafe to drink champers at!

I would get on a hop on hop off tour bus, see the sights and spend time at the ones that are most important to you. For instance if you want to see the Eiffel Tower, just stop there! Make sure to enjoy some cafe culture...

enjoy!

Re: 1 day in Paris -- what do you do?

DH and I only had a day and a half. I wish we could have spent more time, it's a beautiful city. We also took the train and we conquered Paris like it was our mission!! Chat Icon

We took the earliest train into Guard du Nord and we were out of there and on our way to the Louvre. We saw the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo and were out in less than an hour. You can spend days there, but we wanted to see those 2 things most importantly. We then walked to Notre Dame and walked around in there on our own, not the actual tour (there are 2 lines). We then grabbed lunch at a cafe (any one that faces the Seine - a MUST do!!) and then headed over to the Eiffel Tower.

That was one day. We beat ourselves to exhaustion, but it had to be done. We didn't have much time!!

Have a blast and take a lot of pictures!

Oh, the hop on hop off bus tour is a great idea! That should cover the major sites.

Eiffel Tower.

stroll down Champs elysee to the Arc de Triomphe

river boat cruise down the Seine (though this is a bit long)

just going to check out the Louvre. it's pretty cool looking on the outside even.

EATING.

may I suggest

croissant and cafe when you get there.

a Parisenne sandwich (from a street vendor if you can) about 3 hours later

then a snack before you leave. crepe made with real (ie non canadian/new jersey-an nutella) Chat Icon

Paris is lovely. enjoy your time there.

Re: 1 day in Paris -- what do you do?

thanks for the suggestions!

I've had amazing sweets in Belgium before -- including Belgian waffles with a fresh homemade nutella like spread and chantilly cream....and I can only IMAGINE how amazing the crepes are in Paris!

Right now I think we are gonna go from Gard du Nord - to the Eiffel Tower. Unfortunately the Arc de Triomphe will be the occupied in the morning because we are going on Armistice and they hold ceremonies there in the daytime for it.

Then we may take the metro to the Champs de Elysses stop and stroll down there and head towards Pont Neuf and then the Louvre -- and check out Notre Dame (just our own tour -- no need for guided) and catch a bite to eat. If we have time we'll maybe take a 1 hour cruise on the Seine. I wish we had more time....but I have to make do with what we have!!

Eiffel tower, Arc d'Triumphe, walk along the Seine, check out the Louvre from the outside (I think if you went inside, you would just frustrate yourself b/c there wouldn't be enough time), lunch at a nice cafe and then Rue Clare for some amazing crepes.

It has been ten years since I was last there, but this is what I remember best.

If you only have about 7 hrs I would try and hit Eiffel Tower, Arc De Triomphe and Notre Dame (definitely walk along the Seine). Many of those sights are quite spread apart so like many people said, the bus tour would prob be your best bet.

The Louvre is so much you would spend far too much time in there and we actually ended up liking the Musee D'Orsay a lot more than the Louvre.

i think you mentioned you aren't but if you end up staying the evening...I would 100% recommend the dinner cruise down the Seine. That was amazing!

Don't forget to fit in a glass of wine & a crepe! Paris is amazing, you'll love it!
