good way to clean produce?
I found out recently that I'm pregnant and I'm trying to eat a lot more fruits and vegtables. Is there a really effective way to wash them to make sure they're really clean? (I remember a long time ago someone saying you should rinse fruit out in vinegar but I dont know if its true.) And with the recent ecoli scares in the past few years I'd like to make sure my spinach and other leafy greens are really safe. Any suggestions? TIA

they sell fruit/vegetable wash. I was my vegetables with a little bit of salt but rinse it all off. I have heard of people using vinegar and lemons also!

Re: good way to clean produce?
Congratulations on the expected arrival!
I actually have a scrubber that I use for fruits/veggies. I don't use soap, just hot water. If there is a waxy look to the fruit from whatever they put on it to make it shiny, I just add a little lemon juice and give it a quick scrub.
For my leafy stuff, I soak in water and then I put it through my salad spinner. I don't use hot water because it can wilt the greens a bit. I just repeat the process until the water looks REALLY clear with no sandy stuff or discoloration. If you want to scrub them I'd use a soft brush and concentrate at the bottom where the stalks and stems are less tender.
Good luck!

Re: good way to clean produce?
I use this. Got it off Oprah website. You can buy Grapefruit seed extract on Amazon or GNC. I keep it in a spray bottle next to my sink and use it on everything veggie or fruit! I spray it and let it sit for 5 mins. than rinse
Sophie Uliano's Veggie Cleaner Spray
If you can't buy organic produce, you need to make sure you wash it thoroughly. Use this spray to make sure your fruit and vegetables are squeaky clean. Ingredients: * 1 cup water * 1 cup distilled white vinegar * 1 tablespoon baking soda * 20 drops grapefruit seed extract
Combine all ingredients in a large container. Then, transfer to a spray bottle with a pump. Spray mixture on produce, and rinse thoroughly after 5 to 10 minutes.

How long is the solution good for?
