An update on the breastfeeding
Its been really difficult! He went from latching on great to taking 15 minutes to latch on and then once he does he gets a good 10 minutes of suc.king in and then falls asleep so I try to wake up and the process starts all over. The feedings are taking between 45 minutes to an hour. I feel kinda like a failure because I didn't listen to my instint and instead I listened to the doctor about giving him formula (his last formula bottle was on monday or tuesday and it was only one each day) and if he needs more food DH gives him a bottle of breast milk. Do you think it is still worth tring to breastfeed him? I just feel so bad because he gets so fraustrated and I know he is hungry. I appreciate all the advise on the other posts and I was so determined to continue breastfeeding that now I just feel like I letting myself down.

YES! It is still worth trying to breastfeed him if you want him to breastfeed!
Why are you waking him up if he falls asleep after eating for 10 minutes? Unless he hasn't been gaining weight, I'd declare a sleeping baby to be happy and satisfied...

He falls asleep at my breast so I try to wake him to continue eating. If I put him down then he wakes up. I do want to breastfeed him but it is so frustrating. Calla you have FM.

This happened to my daughter too! I think she got so frustrated with sucking and was getting tired - that she took a nap at my breast and i would have to nudge her alittle to wake up (because if I put her down she would wake up crying of hunger anyway) - her face was also red because she was sucking so hard and not getting enough. My daughter was hungry every 20 minutes - i thought i was going crazy. I did buy a pump to see how much milk I was producing (but in way this became frustrating - because she wasn't latching on as great because she was liking the bottle and the milk). It may take you alittle longer for your milk to come in - mine just didn't increase much after 3 weeks so i didn't to give her the bottle exclusively. But if you do want to breastfeed - you are still in time - your baby is small - just remember if you keep giving him the bottle - his desire for it will increase. If u have any questions, feel free to FM me. Good luck

I'm guessing he is waking up when you put him down because he likes to cuddle, not because he is still hungry. Mommy is just so warm and comfy!!!
