My first IUI

Former LI Weddings '08 Bride - Finally making it over to LI Families!

After over a year of trying to get pregnant, my husband and I decided it was time to see a reproductive specialist.
I just had my first IUI and won’t know for another 2 weeks whether I am pregnant. I have read that the success rate for someone my age who has no known fertility problems is 15%. This number seems so low and discouraging. I took clomid to up my chances of conceiving but now it all just feels like a waiting game…. I am driving myself nuts wondering if I actually am pregnant or whether my husband and I will be dissappointed in 2 weeks. I’m trying to get my mind off of it but I just can’t seem to do so….. Any suggestions? Is anyone else in a similar situation who can offer some insight or advice?
Thanks!!!

Welcome to the club!

Sorry you are here. I think many of us feel the way you do. BUT the 2ww gets easier to do (and you don't get your hopes up so high as time progresses). I really hope you get preg & don't get to IUI number 2.

Try distracting yourself. Don't look at the calendar. Go out with friends, make yourself busy at work.

Re: My first IUI

Thank you for your words of support and encouragement! Though a close friend of mine is also having difficulties TTC, I often feel like I am the only one out there who is going through this and it is comforting to know that there are others out there who understand. It is very reassuring to know that the 2ww gets easier with time. I pray however, that this will be the only time I will have to do the procedure. I guess we all just need to stay strong and hopeful!

I'm a LIW 08 bride too.

The only advice I can offer is to try to stay busy---I know that's easier said than done.

Good luck!

I am in the exact same situation. I had my first iui Sunday, and the waiting game is horrible. I know how you feel about the success rate, I've seen on some websites between 10-30% which does seem low but its still gives you a chance. Its impossible not to think about it, I think about it all the time. Its all Dh and I talk about. All you can do is stayed focused on the goal no matter how long it takes to get there. Good Luck to you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: My first IUI

I am in the 2WW on my first IUI also. We tried unsuccessfully for 9 months before moving to IUI, but we moved a little quicker because I conceived my son very quickly and after months of nothing, I knew something was wrong. We have some male factor issues going on so our chances of this IUI working are even smaller than for most. I guess my son is somewhat of a miracle since he was conceived the old fashioned way! The thing that is helping me get thru it is just convincing myself that I have to get thru 3 IUIs in order to move to IVF which has a much higher success rate. I think I have *almost* convinced myself that I have no chance of getting pregnant with IUI and that helps me get thru! Sorry I am Debbie Downer, but I don't think i can take another month of disappointment!

Question.... is the success rate for IUI's really only 15%? What have your doctors told you regarding the succes rate?

Don't stress too much over the success rates. There are so many different #'s depending on so many different factors. It's tough not to do a million google searches during the 2WW but try not to stress too much!!!!

Thanks!

The odds for success seem so discouraging and I just couldn't help but ask. Sigh....

Re: My first IUI

08 bride here too.

I will be doing my first IUI this cycle as well, AF came yesterday. I am so nervous because each cycle gets harder and harder with each AF. Although it is true that the 2ww gets easier and easier, probably because I don't want to think about another BFN!

I hope that everyone in their 2ww gets the BFP they are hoping for. Good luck!!
