Would you get a 2nd LAP done???

If your doctor didn't recommend a 2nd LAP to remove Endo due to additional scarring would you still want to have it done if you wanted to TTC and didn't have any luck getting PG for a few months? I got PG right away after the 1st Lap. My DH and I are starting to discuss TTC for a 3rd in the future. Maybe? My doctor really doesn't want me to have another one, but part of me may want to because it will remove what Endo they can instead of trying over and over again to get PG and not have any luck and then the endo just grows in that timeframe? The Endo causes the "environment" inside not to be implantation friendly. Since I have severe endo, it's all over. The main parts are the chocolate cysts are off of my right ovary and a smaller cyst started on my left ovary. It's also all over everywhere else, but they can't really remove it, it's too much and too small. I thought maybe if they removed my right ovary that, maybe that will keep the endo from growing elsewhere? I feel stongly that my right ovary doesn't work anymore anyway. It hasn't ovulated from that side in over 2 years. I'm just afraid that what if they remove the wrong one, what if something happens to my only one functioning ovary, etc. I don't know. I just have a lot going on in my head. I'm just trying to think ahead. I made another appt with my doctor but she's not available until 11/30. She said the can do the surgery if I want to, but doesn't recommend it. What would you do? We would like to have one more child before I'm not able to, which could be now or soon. It's so hard to decide what the right course of action is? I don't want to make my situation worse, you know? Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

I don't have much authority on this issue, but since no one else replied:

I'd talk about this option more-so with your doctor.

Adhesions can be pretty horrible: you can get bowel obstruction, ect. To hear from a doctor that they really don't recommend something may mean she/he thinks you are at a relatively higher risk for the possible complications without too much of a benefit. Plus, I tend to trust an MD with expertise in an area a bit more than an online community.

In addition, a second lap is never as easy as the 1st (because of adhesions).

It's tough: I know how much one can want a kid: I'd just make sure you understand (by conversations with your MD) how much you are putting yourself at risk.

Have you considered getting a second opinion? How long ago did you have your lap surgery? Did you have it after you had your children? I would consult another doctor and see what they reccomend. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the responses. I didn't really think the adhesions would be worse the 2nd time around? I just thought it would be the same experience I had the first time?

The first Lap I had was right before I got PG with my 2nd son. So, that was December 2, 2005.

I just didn't want to waste any time TTC month after month if it wasn't going to work because of the Endo without having the surgery. I don't have much time if I have any at all.

I don't want to insult my doctors opinion. I fully trust her. She's always been there for me. It's just that if I can't get PG on my own IVF would be the only other option, and we can't afford that. She said IUI's wouldn't even work.

No, I meant the more times you have surgery, the worse adhesions become. You accumulate more. The 2nd lap will be harder (for your surgeon to perform) because of the adhesions from your first.

The reason I say this, is from what you write... it sounded to me like this is what your MD was worried about.

I'd have a heart-to-heart with her.
