How much is to much...

hair to loose in the shower?

On Sat morning, I lost so much hair in the shower that I was convinced I was leaving myself with a bald spot somewhere. Since then, i've been convinced that my hair is thinning in the front on the sides - like above my temples. Everyone keeps telling me I'm nuts and my hair doesn't look any different, but I swear I'm scarred from loosing that much hair in 1 day.

WHAT do I do about this? Is there a shampoo or something I can use to spark hair growth??

Were you sick a few months ago? Give birth? Have some big change in medication?

Hair loss often happens 2-3 months are some big change like those above. It might last for a few weeks and freak you out, but it eventually stops.

Re: How much is to much...

Its probably from the weight loss.

I had this happen to me too esp after joining ww and losing weight.

Its calmed down a bit.

Re: How much is to much...

not sick and haven't given birth... I am HIGHLY stressed out.. which I guess can do it.. but what if it doesn't stop?? The hair loss is stressing me out MORE!

I have a fear of being one of those women with really thin hair where you can see their scalp. I assume that's a form of alopecia? How do I know that's not what this is?

Re: How much is to much...

You can use Nioxin brand hair products.. they sell them at Ulta.

If your hair is dyed though I would check to make sure they won't do anything to the color.

I could be wrong about this, but I think this is a question that a dermatologist can answer, if you are worried! Chat Icon I'm sure it's fine though, I heard this is the time of year women lose hair the most....

But, it's not worth stressing over it, so if you ARE worried, just make an appointment! Chat Icon

Re: How much is to much...

If you are really concerned, I would go to a dermatologist like the PP suggested.

Around 3 years ago, my colorist discovered a bald spot on the back/side of my head. It was almost a perfect circle about 2 in in diameter and completely blad - it looked like someone shaved it. I was TOTALLY freaked out about it bc I have always thought my hair is one of my best features and I know 2 people with alopecia. One who is completely bald and wears a wig and the other who has very thin hair and it comes and goes and sometimes she has bald patches. Anyway...I went to the dermatologist for about 4-6 weeks and they gave me cortisone shots in my scalp. The hair grew back and I haven't had a problem since and we don't know what it happened.

The only thing I'm loosing from my diet is sugar and transfat.. lol but i don't take a vitamin and I should.

I'm making an appointment with my derm. Is there a blood test they can take or something?

I agree with Kristen. I think you need to start taking a multivitamin! Chat Icon
