33 week appt./ultrasoud

I went to the doctor today for an ultrasound and the baby measured 4 pounds 13 ounces. Both the utrasound tech and doctor said that we are going to have a big baby. The funny thing is that i felt like I was caryying small. Does anyone know how accurate these estimations are? I'm getting scared of a big baby.

I don't think that's big at all, and I've had a big baby before! I think that's pretty average and the u/s can be off by a pound either way. When I had my first, he was 5.5 lbs at 32 weeks. My doc told me today 1/2 pound a week in the home stretch, so your right on average for a 7-8 lb. baby.

They're not that accurate - they can be +/- a pound. Its estimated that the baby will gain .5lb a week going forward. So even if the measurement is spot on, you're looking at a 8.5 pounder - thats not so huge...

I'm 32 weeks, and the baby's weighing in around 4lbs (I didn't have a sono, but thats the midwife's estimate)

good question! i was gonna ask this!

at 32 weeks, measured 4lbs 4oz. With 8 weeks left, and him gaining 1/2 lb/week ... i'd guess it is sorta accurate.

anyone else? how accurate is it?

Don't worry - most of the time the estimations are way off. My daughter was estimated to be over 8.5lbs and she weighed in at 7 lbs 6 ozs and i was 5 days late.
