I just wan't to rent ..what is the freakin problem?
So dh and I have been trying to find a place to rent for a month now ,but it is merely impossible !! They wan't 3 months rent to move in ( even alot of them on the craigslist) credit checks,and then they get to chose between you ,and others . When they finally choose they don't call you back ! I am getting a freeeeeakin headache just trying to find a place ! Then most of these places are soooooo gross !! I am a messy person ,but not dirty ... I am amazed at how some people live 
Sorry I had to vent ! I just wan't a nice clean place for my kids ! We are only going to be in NY a few more yrs ,that is why we don't wan't to buy , but at this point it might be easier  I have never heard of anyone having this kind of problem getting into a rental ! One house wanted 7k just to move in ,and the house was

That sux. Sorry you're having a rough time. I remember apartment hunting many moons ago and I was appalled at the places people wanted to rent out. Guess things haven't changed.
Are you looking at just houses? What about an aprtment building?

Are you looking at just houses? What about an aprtment building?
Both !! I was origanlly looking at houses ,but 6-7K to move in is going to be a no go ! So we have been looking into town houses, condos, co-ops ! this is not fun at all

I had the same problem when I was looking for a rental back in Feb/March.
I was moving out of a 1 br apt in a complex that had no washer/dryer in the apt. We were supposed to move into a 2 br 2 bath apt with a washer/ dryer in the apt but i was not comfortable with the lease terms so I back out of it about 1.5 months before we were supposed to move in. So we started the frantic seacrh for a new 2 br apt with a washer dryer but everything was or  . We were even working with a realtor but that did not work out. we ended up finding a BEAUTIFUL 3br 1 bath apt on craigslist that we fell in love with when we went to check it out. It is the 1st floor of a high ranch and the lanlord's son lives upstairs by himself. Very quiet guy (who DH actuall went to HS with) who works all the time. It has central air, heat is included in the rent and we have free wifi internet. So all we pay is electric & cable. The only problem was that it did not have a washer & dryer and that was something I did NOT want to compromise on because my DS was 3months old at the time and refused to wash his cloths at a laundrymat. BUT in the end I ended up taking the apt because we were crunched for time and everything else we looked at nothing compared to this apt. I am VERY happy with our decision. It just sucks about the laundry but my mom washes DS's cloths at her house and DH&I wash our clothes at they laundrymat or at my moms house too.
I was also very happy that we only had to pay 1 months security, not 2. That saved us a good amount of $$$ that we able to use to buy DS's crib sooner rather than later.
Sorry so long but I jsut wanted to tell you to keep looking and you will find something. Something special will pop up just when you are ready to give up! You might have to make some compromises but it will work out! Good Luck!

When I lived out there, I used to log onto the Yankee Trader website on the days when they updated their listing. U kind of have to be a stalker about it. Once an apt is listed, it's taken almost immediately. Maybe u could also consider a realtor?

I am about to go through this process as I will need a place to rent for a good six months.
Not looking forward to it. I already realize I will be paying above market $$$$ because I will not live in a dirty place. The only good thing is i know it wont be as much as a mortgage payment and if it includes utilities, even better.

I stalk every website possible except that one , I will take a look ..thank you !! I already am going through a realtor

We're going through the same thing. I'm limited to one town because DH's in the fire department and we can't find anything halfway decent. We found one place but they wanted $6k to move in and it was on a main road with no backyard. We've been looking for months now and it is complete torture. Good luck!
