Re: kitten....
check for fleas before you bring it home. A friend got a kitten from there that was ridden with fleas so badly they had to take her to the vet.

Re: kitten....
Do you have any other cats or animals? If so what sex are they?
Reason I ask is I got my female cat first and I was told to get a male cat next. They are the best of friends. Usually two females do not get along well together.

Re: kitten....
I like male cats more. I don't know why, but I love their personality. Don't get my wrong I love my female cat just as much as my male cat and I have owned females prior, but man can she be such a b!tch sometimes .

Re: kitten....
I have always found that males TEND to be more affectionate and mellow. There are exceptions to ever rule of course- but the majority of the time I find that the males are more loving and affectionate and the females are a bit more independant and stand offish.
And they shouldn't spray as long as you get them fixed...

Re: kitten....
I have a male AND female cat both from NSAL.
We adopted the female back in 2007 and the male in 2008 (wanted to get her a friend ) ... We had a great adoption experience both times.
As for the genders...... I find both of them are extremely lovable only in different ways. My male cat is definitely more affectionate. The female is affectionate- but on HER terms. Sometimes she just does not want to be bothered. With the male, he is basically like a big old teddy bear You can literally do anything to him and he'll rub up against you and purr.
We plan on getting more one day after we have kids and will most likely be getting males. Oh, and he doesn't spray because he is neutered.
I want to also say that you might want to consider getting 2!! It's not much more work than taking care of one and they can grow up together and be great friends! Mine never really 'bonded'. They tolerate each other....... but it's not the same.
Good luck!! OHH!! And, try to go before the end of October. Kitten season (when they have a HUGE selection) is May-October. I used to think this was bogus but when we adopted my female cat in March on a weekend morning she was 1 of 3 kittens in the entire place. When we got my male in June there were soooooooooo many it was overwhelming even! So definitely go while you'll have the best selection

Re: kitten....
My DHs animal hospital has three kittens that were dumped outside of his practice. Two are 5 weeks old and the other is seven. They are adorable.
Please let me know if you'd like any info.
