Did you ever consider moving out of state?
DH and I are considering moving to Texas.....he can take his NY salary anywhere and have huge house.....I could stay home w/ our future children but we would be away from friends and family......has anyone done this?

yes, we have thought about moving to N. Carolina...the only thing is now that Im almost done with am my credits (Im a teacher), and now on the higher end of the payscale, it kills me to have spent all that time and $$$ getting my pay raise to only move and get it chopped in half, or even less

While DH can still stay at his company and live anywhere I can't. I'm a NYS teacher and, like Diane, I have a MS plus 60 credits and have 13 years teaching. In most other states my salary would be 1/3 of what I make now. I know how people always talk about the money they save when they move but it wouldn't be applicable to me, I'd lose WAY too much in salary and pension to try to make up the difference.
Maybe someday after I retire (2027 ) and the kiddies are grown. Knowing my luck my kids will want to be doctors (lots and lots of tuition) and I'll never be able to retire
