airport arrival
if we have a 6:35pm flight to italy what time should we get to airport?
first international flight... don't really know what to expect.

It REALLY depends on alot of things:
-Which airport
-Are you checking in online beforehand?
-Are you checking in bags?
(if you check in online and don't check bags you can go right to security)
-Day of the week
They say 2 hours, but I don't check bags, check-in online, usually fly mid-week from a smaller airport and get there about 1 hr beforehand.
If you're talking about JFK on a Fri/Sat, I would think you'd need the two hours.

Where are you flying to?
I am leaving on the 4:55 to Rome from JFK and we will be at the airport between 2 and 2:30.
I always say 3 hours for international, 2 hours for domestic - just in case!

yep, JFK on friday. we're def checking bags (can't fit everything in carry on) and i didn't think about online check in. i'll have to check the airline to see if i can do it. thanks!!!

7:55 am flight to Cancun from Newark
Plan on getting to the airport around 5-5:30
sleeping at my Aunt and Uncles in SI the night before- my Uncle is driving us
by this time next week I will be at the pool...drink in hand

Just an interesting thing, last week I flew from JFK to Manchester on Delta. I checked in online, checked my bags at curbside, and never had to speak to anyone again inside of the airport. I went through security and straight onto my gate. So I would say get there 2 hours if you can check in online.

I always say if you are early, the worst case scenario is that you are bored - if you are late, you could miss the flight!
Have a great trip! Italy is cooling down right now so it should be perfect! Sicily was over 100* last week but this week went down to 80* and Venice should be even cooler!

Just wanted to let you guys know:
I had family here from Italy and we took them to airpport. Their tickets said: Arrive at least 55 minutes before the flight. THey arrived 50 minutes before the filght (traffic on the Van Wyck!!) and were allowed to board the plane- however they were not allowed to take their luggage! They had to leave it here and my mom will have to bring when she goes to Italy next week. Luckily they live in Italy and oviously have stuff at home, but can you imagine if they were traveling away from home?? They would have nothing with them!
So Lesson to be learned: Arrive when it say to on your ticket!! Or earlier if you can. There were literally 5 minutes later & still had almost an hour until their flight.
