Cake decorating gel/icing - is it gross?
As you may have seen in my XPOST below, Im making a Thomas the Tank Cake for DS for his bday. Im using the Wilton pan/Instructions, but Ive heard the icing is gross? Is this true, or is it just the gel?
Anything I can do so the cake looks cool and tastes great too. Id hate to pull all that work into a cake and no one eats it bc its gross.

Re: Cake decorating gel/icing - is it gross?
I took cake decorating with Wilton, and most of the time (unless I was doing something like flowers), I used buttercream frosting that I made myself. You can make it stiffer by adding more confectioners sugar, and then it will be okay. I saw your cake and it's mostly stars, so you should be fine with the real buttercream. Just make sure to put it in the fridge right away so it hardens up.
