HSG test
My DR. wants me to have an hsg, while he says its up to me, he suggested it and I think I should have it. He said it can be painful. I have a pretty high threshold for pain, so I'm hoping I can do it. Has anyone had it, and how painful is it really?

Re: HSG test
I'm pretty sure we just about all have had it.
The procedure itself is not painful at all (think pap-smear).
AFTER the procedure, I had pretty severe cramps for about 1 hr. I would not have been able to drive.
Prior to the procedure, you should take ibuprofen.
You will definitely be able to do it.

Re: HSG test
Mine was pretty pain free, some cramping afterwards. I drove myself to work. I have heard that *IF* there are any blockages, then it can be more painful as the dye tries to go past the blocks. GL!

Re: HSG test
For me..the HSG was very painful. Short but painful. Once the procedure was over though I had no cramping what so ever.

Re: HSG test
I was in the same situation as jerseygirl.
it's like a few minutes of extreme pressure and discomfort..and then I was fine afterwards. No cramps or anything!

Same here. I think if you have a blockage it can be painful.

Re: HSG test
For me, it was pretty painful but it's something u only have to do once (most likely). It's over in about 15 minutes. It's helpful bc if something is blocked, your dr needs to know; if not, it's something else to rule out.

Re: HSG test
I took 800mg of Advil (as per my Dr.) and the procedure wasn't painful at all. It is a little uncomfortable and not the most pleasant experience, but it wasn't painful for me. Mine showed polyps in my tubes and it still wasn't painful, so I don't know.
I did, like the other ladies said, have some cramping later that day. But, I took some more advil and did ok.
Good Luck!!!!!

Re: HSG test
I just had the test done on Monday. I did take motrin right before. I do not handle pain well at all. The procedure did hurt me but I kept telling myself that it would be over quickly, and it was. Good luck

Re: HSG test
It was pretty painful for me. My cervix was very tight so the dr. had to pry it open. However, the procedure was quick and it was so worth it. This time around it was a piece f cake for me, probably since I have a DC so my cervix was not as tight.

Re: HSG test
Thanks ladies. I should be having it sometime next week providing AF shows up when she is supposed to. I am nervous but I survived having a biopsy of my cervix which was painful and I forgot to take the advil before hand.
