Is anyone else as slow as me with the solids???

After reading some posts I'm realizing how far behind we are in the solids department. Sidney is 9 months and all we have had so far is:
rice cereal
pears
peaches
bananas
apples
peas
sweet potato
squash

I didn't even realize that finger foods should be coming into the picture so soon. Do I go ahead and start with some finger foods or do I need to get more different types of jarred food in there first? She has food allergy issues so that is why I've been so cautious about the food but man I feel way behind! Sidney shows all the signs of wanting real food Chat Icon

I really am not sure- I only go as fast as DS shows me he wants to go...

Considering she has a food allergy- I think its necessary that you take things a little slowly... I know I would... JMO

Re: Is anyone else as slow as me with the solids???

Dont ever feel like your behind in anything.

I was ALWAYS behind in the food department, mostly my choice, my fear of them choking, being extra cautious with SUPER SMALL pieces, etc.

Most of my family knows im watching like a hawk as anyone feeds my kids Chat Icon I cant help it. ITs my instinct to be nervous about it.

My boys didnt hold their own cookies/bread etc, till they were close to 18m-2. I know many babies who were holding and chomping down on a bagel, pretzel at 6months Chat Icon I could never have done that without fainting myself Chat Icon People would hand them stuff, and there was taking it and breaking it up into pieces.

Of course Im much better with baby # 2, thats always the case. But you have to do it at your own pace, and whatever works for you and baby.

Re: Is anyone else as slow as me with the solids???

Bryan has/had the milk protein allergy thing but I think its subsided or grown out of it because Ive been giving things with the milk protein and he's been fine. I was so hesitant in the beginning though because I was afraid of allergic reaction. I do the whole 3 day rule still with new foods and its been good. Lately Ive been more corageous but I still havent tried too much outside of the stage 2 jarred foods and I havent tried stage 3's at all because I have heard that some babies reject them. I only have given him puffs, zwiback biscuits, wagon wheels and pancakes for finger foods so far. He does really well with those so I may try more. Iget more comfortable when he seems to do really well with a particular food.

I guess I just feel some pressure from certain family members who keep pestering me about giving her real food. My aunt always says "see she wants what you're eating" etc. I really would like to give her the teething biscuits as she has been eating cardboard boxes Chat Icon but I looked today and they have milk in them!!!!

Antionette....when did you feel comfortable giving Bryan foods with milk in it?? I think Sidney is still having a problem with it cause of how she reacted when I think I ate something with milk by mistake when I went out to eat a few weeks ago. Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone else as slow as me with the solids???

I have three kids and my first two did not get milk products until they were a year old. Also, I didn't/won't start solids until 6 months b/c we have a history of diabetes on both sides of the family.
So, I don't think you're behind at all, just do what's best for you and your family.
