Washing Machine ?
My washing machine is in my basement and connects DIRECTLY into the waste pipe. It is held there by duct tape...(by the previous owners of course!!)
Who would I call to make this more of a proper hook up? A plumber? Appliance repair?
Thanks!!

Re: Washing Machine ?
plumber and yes that is highly illegal to do or have i should say. We are buying a house with the same thing so we are just bringing the laundry room upstairs in a third bathroom we do not need. Same thing with subpumps years ago you were allowed to directly tap into sewer systems but now it is not to code.

Re: Washing Machine ?
Thanks so much for your reply!
I am curious though, you are no longer allowed to have your washing machine in the basement? Bringing it upstairs in not an option for us.
The hose from the back of the washer goes right into that big pipe that runs along the basement wall carrying waste from the shower/sinks etc. out to the cesspool (I guess).
I was just wondering if that is the way it should be hooked up or should there be a separate pipe?
Now I am nervous!!

Re: Washing Machine ?
I think she meant it is illegal to have your pump connected directly to the sewer line. You can have your washing machine hooked up whereever you want and have the room.

Re: Washing Machine ?
Our washing machine, which was moved during our reconstruction is attached directly to the waste line along the basement wall, as you've described. Licensed plumber, and inspected and approved by the town.
You do need a "P" trap, and ventilation, however, so it's probable that the exact configuration isn't correct (Duct tape is never a proper form of connecting house pipes... ), but from what you've told us, the worst case scenario would be for $10-20 worth of PVC pipe pieces to connect it properly, and an hour or less of time from a licensed plumber.
