Those who've been to Maui....
...what is best area to stay in? Wailea? Kaanapali? Kihei? Lahaina? Somewhere else? Trying to get some opinions on the different areas and their pros and cons.

We stayed in Lahaina and loved it there. It's very close to Front St - which is a nice place to go shopping and have dinner. (there are a lot of restaurants there)

Re: Those who've been to Maui....
I stay in Kihei when I go, but that is because my friend lives there.
I think Lahaina is a good place to stay-lots of shopping and activity.
Wailea is beautiful, but more quiet and full of resorts/golfing.
It is not bad to drive on the island, so anywhere you choose to stay, you can visit the other areas easily. Enjoy!

We stayed at the Hyatt-- it was great and within walking distance to the beach and shops. Lahaina is a close drive and I thought it was very touristy-- lots of t-shirt shops...

Re: Those who've been to Maui....
I've stayed in Kihei (Kea Lani) and Lahani (Westin).
I think it depends on what you want out of the trip. Quiet, relaxation - Kea Lani was top notch. Closer to the action, Westin.
Are you the type to stay at the resort or do a lot of activiites & never be in your hotel?
