Re: Boarding
A week or so, when we go on vacation. He loves it.... Constant attention, lots of new smells, plenty of "people" to talk to, etc, etc...
We use our vet to board him.

Re: Boarding
Anyone board for longer?
We are flying our cats to Germany and DH's new company is putting us up in an apartment for two months. We don't know for sure yet, but it is looking like that apartment can't have cats. Our only solution is to board our cats and get out of the free apartment to find a place that can have cats.
I am crushed. I am not giving them away at all, but I know this will stress them out. . I can't worry about it until we know for sure, but still.

Re: Boarding
I've only done 11 days at a stretch. Is there anyone you know, like a friend or family member, who could/would take care of them for you during that time so you wouldn't have to board them?
I'm sure they would be OK if you do end up boarding them though - you'd really have no choice if the apartment won't take them. Emotionally, it'll probably be harder on you than on them.

Re: Boarding
the longest i boarded was for my honeymoon which was 2 1/2 weeks which killed me at first, but my dog loves where we bring him, its in brooklyn, we say its a vacation for him they treat him like a king, everytime he comes out when we go to get him they are carrying him lol and even if they don't have room, they always say "oh little jack no problem just bring him in" but i understand your apprehension 2 months is a long time, can you board them for a month and find someone to watch them for a month? good luck

Re: Boarding
I was just searching for someone to board my dog in a home atmosphere, and I came across this girl Rebecca in Lindenhurst. Here's her website, she has an entire room for boarding cats!

Re: Boarding
That's a long time to board. Do you have any family members that would be willing to take them in while you're there? When DH and I were renovating our bathrooms and living with my parents, his dad was nice enough to take our two cats. It worked out really well. Good luck!

No, no family members. My MIL won't do it b/c she doesn't like cats. My family can't do it because it would be too difficult with shipping them to the US and then to Germany. I could ask a friend, but that would mean the cats would go to her apartment (I will no longer have an apartment in this country).
If we ask someone here (Australia), I am afraid the cats would try and run away and go back to where we would have lived at that time.
