Ewww- Moldy Lipgloss?

I always use Ulta's Super Shiny Lip Gloss.
The past 2 tubes or so I have noticed that by the time I get about half way through the tube, the lipgloss starts to smell (and taste Chat Icon ) moldy or mildewy!
This is usually about 3 weeks into using it- so it's not like it's been sitting for 6 months.
I'm starting to wonder if it's old product that has been sitting on the shelf for too long- but everytime I go they are always out of the colors I wear, so I would imagine the product has enough turn around to not sit around long enough to get moldy.

I end up having to throw out about half the lipgloss because it's just too disgusting.

Anyone ever experience this? Are they supposed to use preservatives or something in the gloss to keep it from getting this way?
I'm just curious... I guess I'll have to switch brands...

I would totally complain and try to return them. That is ridiculous.. expecially if it's happened more than one time. Chat Icon

Re: Ewww- Moldy Lipgloss?

You have to bring it to their attention. That is happening because there is bacteria in it. I work for a cosmetics company. Before every pour that's made whether it's a cream or lipwax a micro test is done, if it fails the whole batch of mass has to be thrown out. So A. Someone is letting that mass go through or B. Bacteria somehow got into the mass and hence your yucky lipglosses.
