A friend of mine who is PG...
A friend of mine is about 9 weeks pregnant and is worried that she will m/c because she’s been spotting. But the blood has been brown so it sounds like old dried blood. She went to her doctor, they did an internal exam. The doctor saw the beginning of a heartbeat and saw no signs of blood which sounds good. Then she started noticing a yellow discharge and said she was going to speak to her doctor about this at the next visit. The yellow discharge he said was normal and nothing to worry about and they did another internal exam and again the saw the little dot that was the baby and they saw the heartbeat. At this early stage they still can’t hear it. Lately she said that she has not noticed any spotting and the doctor said that her chance of m/c now is 5% before it was 20%. I think this all sounds good and hopeful to me. Of course she is still concerned. I don’t blame her because a lot of women go through that fear during the 1st trimester of m/c’ing.
What do you ladies think? Do you think so far things look good?

Re: A friend of mine who is PG...
My dr said the same thing to me after we saw the heartbeat and I really didn't believe him. I was still cautiously excited.
I do think it's normal for your friend to be concerned still, I know I was, and still am.
At 9 weeks though, I was able to hear the baby's heartbeat with a doppler I rented though. That helped alot when I was scared, I could listen to her heartbeat whenever I panicked.
I didn't hear the baby's heartbeat at the dr until 16 weeks, if i didn't have that doppler I would have gone nutty.

I should mention the doppler to her.
I certainly don't blame her for being concerned. Her next appointment is in 4 weeks where she'll do the blood tests for Downs Syndrome and all that stuff. She's like "Assuming nothing happens in 4 weeks" I told her to be hopeful and to continue praying and to continue taking care of her body, to not stress out too much. Because it won't do much good to her or the baby, it will make matters worse...

It looks okay and I too would be concerned. but she needs to relax because she doesn't want to cause her lil one so much stress especially in the beginning.
Renting a doppler sounds like a great idea for her!

I was the exact way, I had experience a loss right before this one, and I was so negative about the pg in the beginning cause i figured if I didn't get attached or get excited it wouldn't hurt if i lost it.
Stress is def not good for the baby. I am convinced excessive stress is what made my pre term labor contractions start at 26 weeks and got me bedrest and meds.
Just be there for her and keep reassuring her everythign will be okay.
Def have her look into that doppler, I got mine from
storkradio.com babybeat.com and i think there are other sites too.

Re: A friend of mine who is PG...
Giovanna,
I'm having the same experience as your friend except I'm only 7 weeks. I'm having brown spotting and my dr's done several internal u/s and sees nothing wrong (has seen a heartbeat since 5w3d.) However he still has me at high risk. Is that because I'm only 7 weeks vs. 9 weeks? He is still seeing me every 2 weeks vs. 4 weeks. I may look into a doppler as well.
Thanks for the suggestion

It's possible that that may be the reason you are at a higher risk but i'm not sure. I just think M/C is a threat period during the 1st trimester, no matter how many weeks.
Have you been feeling any cramps?

Re: A friend of mine who is PG...
yes I do occassionally have some light cramping. The dr feels that could just be the stretching and growing. Not as bad as AF.

It doesn't sound so bad. I would be more worried if the bleeding and cramping became heavier. Just keep thinking positive, that's the key...

Re: A friend of mine who is PG...
I had some red bleeding on Monday and some brown spotting on and off since then. I am 12 weeks and got pretty concerned. Went to the doc yesterday and heard the heartbeat...so all is well. My doc said it is very commom to have unexplained bleeding in the 1st trimester.

Yes it is. My mom had it too. I've heard that some women bleed throughout the whole pregnancy.
