Dining Room- Area Rug or No Area Rug?
Which do you prefer? Currently have no rug. I go back and forth on whether to add one. Just curious to see what others have!!

Re: Dining Room- Area Rug or No Area Rug?
i wouldnt use one
our living/dining room (if we get the house ) will be open to eachother - not seperate areas....i rather have a rug over by the couch and nothing under the table...
but in a house that has a seperate room for dining a rug might be nice

we have wood floors and a small round area rug that is directly under the table & I find that so much easier- but then my dh is a messy eater

we just got our floors done so we are getting one to protect them. we are leaving a little bit of a border.
btw, i personally find shopping for an area rug to be a PITA!

I have one and it's under the table and the chairs when pushed in. I like it, but I wouldn't have put one there except that I inherited my brothers when he moved and it happened to match exactly.

I like how it looks, but I don't have one for the following reasons:
1. It would be really $$$ for the size I need
2. Another thing I have to vacumn
3. I would be paranoid if people dropped food on it.

Re: Dining Room- Area Rug or No Area Rug?
i prefer areas rugs in all rooms with hardwood for a warm/homey feeling and accessorizing purposes. however, i do agree that it is sometimes a pain to keep the DR and kitchen area rugs clean.

really? i view as the opposite. i would most definetly want area rugs in a home with an open floor plan. aids in the flow and bledning of colors not to mention noise reduction.
in a home with seprate rooms, i would be more apt not to have area rugs in each room (although i do).

We have HW too, and were wonding about getting an area rug- but it's so easy now to pull (slide) out the chairs to sit, if you get a rug, then you have to lift them (and they are heavy) so I'm thinking it's easier to keep it w/out a rug.

i agree if the room is large...
ours won't be....so if we had two rugs the area rug in the living area would almost be touching the area rug under the dining table....i think it would be too cluttered looking and then you wouldn't see any of the flooring....
in a large open space than yes, i think a rug would help anchor the furniture....
but i think our space is too small for it...

I totally agree. I find it easier without and my table is very long and it would cost way too much.

Re: Dining Room- Area Rug or No Area Rug?
i see a lot of people said that they dont buy one because its expensive- I bought mine from ebay- brand new 8 foot round oriental from katins_rugz- I think I paid about $50-$75 and that included shipping and its perfect!
