do you "food" reward yourself?

I've been on ww for 11 weeks now and I'm doing really well... but lately I've been craving "bad" things. I haven't given in yet because I know I'll feel so guilty if I eat say the houstons spinach dip or a friendly's peanut butter sundae. But I was food shopping on Saturday and everything "bad" seemed to be calling my name...the Oreo's were screaming down the isle after me Chat Icon

I know ww is supposed to be a way of living, and not thought of as a diet per say...but do you ever reward yourself? Say once you loose x pounds you'll have some oreo's?

I used to reward with food. I would lose 10 pounds and think gee time for a snickers. Chat Icon But that only does more harm then good. Now I reward myself with mani/pedi, massages, handbags, new clothes, trips, etc. The great thing about WW is you can have some spinach dip and oreos. Just use your flex points and work it into the program. You can only go so long with resisting. Once you give in you will over do it if you restrict yourself. HTH!

Good points.. and I'm so focused on hitting my goal I am almost petrified to deter from program. Like in the grand scheme of things.. i'd rather be SKINNY than enjoy a few oreos... Maybe in 10 more pounds I'll start adding an oreo in here and there Chat Icon

I think that is the whole point of WW. I think everyone likes to have "bad" foods every now and again WW shows you how to do that and make up for it throughout the day

I do something that I think Bethanny Frankel talks about in her book (I say I think because I read an interview with her in one of my magazines and I said out loud, "Hey, I do that!") that you can have what you want but just smaller portions. So if I've worked hard and have eaten well, I'll allow myself a treat.

So if I want chips, I don't take the bag, I pour them in a *small* bowl.

If I want ice cream, I use a pyrex ramekin and a tiny spoon (like the baskin robbins sample spoon).

So aside from exercising, I treat myself to a treat, but just a smaller amount.

Have you ever heard the saying "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels?" I just thought of it when I read your post!

I do reward when I am doing well or when I go for a long run! I think it is normal to do this.

Also when you food shop, do not go hungry, you will end up buy junk food. If anything open a bag of pretzels to munch on and fill you up so you dont feel too hungry and crave bad food!

Re: do you "food" reward yourself?

I'm a WW lifetime member. I'm down 58lbs and still maintaining.

And yes, I do food-reward myself!! I feel that part of WW is allowing yourself to NOT be on a diet. So every once in awhile, I'll eat something crazy (I'm talking an appetizer, full meal, and desert that is equivliant to over 50 points crazy). And I wont count a single point.

However, I didn't do this until I REALLY started to lose alot of weight. I first let myself get into the dieting habits...let myself lose a significant portion of weight. Then, I began to have a small pig out once in awhile.

WW is all about it being a way of life. And what kind of life is it if you can't indulge?

Re: do you "food" reward yourself?

I try not to reward with food, or comfort with food. For rewards, I really love getting a new outfit or handbag. I'm not an unhealthy weight (only a little overweight according to my bmi), but I want to lose more because I really am getting to enjoy clothes and fashion and want to look my best. So clothes are my reward.

At the same time, if I feel like having something a little worse for me, I do and then just eat healthy the rest of the week. Or kick up my exercise. Unless on vacation, I never eat two bad meals or snacks in a row. Just one and then get back on track.

i dont consider it "rewarding" myself but i think its 100% okay to give in to cravings.. as long as i dont, for example, eat a whole bag of cookies or do it all day/everyday

Re: do you "food" reward yourself?

i practice moderation ( a skill it took me months to get used to Chat Icon ) i don't reward myself really, but if i want a treat, i'll have a treat. if you want a sundae from friendlys just get the kids size instead of the regular. or, something else i use, if i have a treat i'll only eat the serving size of it rather than the whole thing... like a candy bar.
