Best places to live with Asthma?
I now live in Northern IL, about 10 minutes from Wisconsin border. We have lived here for almost 4 yrs now. I used to live in NY, Long Island. I have lived there for 30 years. My ? is where to live where the weather wont effect my asthma. Seems like I get sick alot here, cause of the dryness and that the weather changes A LOT!
Thanks!

Re: Best places to live with Asthma?
I would say Colorado! I lived there for 2 summers and had no allergy issues - the air is thin and perfect for those with asthma and allergies.
A close friend and her family moved there when I was in middle school. Her mother had severe asthma and was in the hospital a lot with pneumonia during the spring/fall. They moved out there and her mother lost so much weight b/c she could be outside to exercise, she still had asthma, but the air quality was perfect for her and she could get back to living a better life for herself.

I was going to suggest Arizona. It's dry there but not cold and I think cold could trigger Asthma?
I hope you find a perfect place to live.

Actually Arizona is terrible. I have family out there and the air quality is really bad. When I was out there one time in Feb they issued an air warning and said to stay indoors unless it was necessary to leave your home.
My cousins out there have bad breathing problems. I dont know if its just the area they are in, but its just terrible where they are.

I think it depends on where you are out there. My family is in the valley and I think thats where its bad. If you go more up north I think its better

Arizona. That's where my Dr told my mom was the best place for us to move when I was younger.

Re: Best places to live with Asthma?
My sister spent last summer in Utah.
She said it was asthma mecca.
Pulminologist told me AZ isn't once what it use to be. With polution on the rise out there that its not worth a move.
If you look up the ozone and air quailty of UT, its surprising how the numbers differ so much from where I currently live.
here is a worst list. I am in Charlotte. My kid has never had a NY attack while we visit
notice a few AZ cities on list...but maybe its just the cities.
My sister lives in Philadelphia. Out of her circle's 5 babies, 3 are on maintance meds.

I was going to say Arizona too.
The reason Arizona is a good choice for allergies is because all of the major stuff that triggers allergies (pollen, trees, grass, etc) don't exist in Arizona because it's basically a desert.

Re: Best places to live with Asthma?
I guess it depends on what triggers your asthma.
My cousin lives out there because of her Asthma. They live in Scottsdale.
