feeling annoyed-what would you have done?
so our condo is on the market and a Realtor comes by today with a client unannounced and I was totally unprepared. She said she left a message with my Realtor's office but they are suppose to call and give me a couple hours notice and I never received it. My place was a wreck, I was watching my little nephew and my DS was sleeping. I let them in b/c I hate turning away any potential buyers, but I was so annoyed. I had personal stuff allover the place. I tried to run around and atleast straighten my bedroom when they were in the kitchen and on the deck, but after they left I noticed I had a copy of my check, with how much I made, and the agencies that i work for info among other things I overlooked putting away. Then the guy asks about whether the windows fog and I was so flustered and trying to keep track of the kids and my mind was on how messy the place was that I told him one of the window needs to be tightened as it's loose. So he goes it try it and says oh he would have to replace the spring, take out the window, etc. Me and my big mouth...I never would have even mentioned it if I was on my game. Also, he was nosy and asking why we wanted to move and where too (none of his business). Oh well...I was just wondering if you woudl have let them in or told them to come back another time.

I would've let them in too. As a buyer, I'd rather a messy house than someone turn me away if I'm already there. I would hope the buyer (as I would) would understand that it was the realtors miscommunication.
also, when I'm in someone's home, I don't even look at the mail or anything around...I only look at the size of the rooms, conditions of the windows and floors, etc. Hopefully your buyers are like me and didn't see any of your info.
Oh in addition, sometimes I am curious as to why the people are moving too. Are they staying in the neighborhood or not? are they moving out of state, did they outgrow the house. just curiosity most of the time.

I would have let them in. Would I be annoyed that my agency didn't call me? Absolutely, but still, a potential buyer is a good thing and I don't think I could pass that up. As for your things being out, don't worry. Your place is lived in, what can you do? I mean, it's not like it was an open house and you left it looking like that. I'm sure he didn't look at any of your personal papers. And as for the window, he asked about the windows and you were honest, which is a good thing. At least he knows. Better that then him coming in after inspection and complaining about it. If he's interested, the mess and the window won't deter him

Re: feeling annoyed-what would you have done?
thanks guys I am glad I let them in, just anooyed. When he asked why we were moving, I said I was pregnant and it was time for a house-the Realtor was like of definitely, you'll need more space LOL. When he asked where, I just said still around this area (which is true, I just dont know what town yet or any details)

I definately agree that you did the right thing in letting them in- but I would call your agent and advise them that they need to give you a minimum of 3 hours and the agency is not to leave a message- they must get a verbal ok from you- if it happens again- call the broker or office manager for that real estate office- thats really unacceptable

Re: feeling annoyed-what would you have done?
i would have let them in too and made a mental note to yell at the agency and to keep on my toes a little more with picking things up.....you know just in case this happens again.
also as a previous buyer i always wondered why people are moving but our agent was usually on top of that and knew why as we walked in the house..... we are curious people by nature...
i hope your home sells quickly and for the right price....and good luck on your move and future place

Re: feeling annoyed-what would you have done?
you did right letting them in. as a buyer, I usually overlooked clutter, but as a seller, I understand your feelings. It's a fear I have that someone will knock on the door just passing by to look. So whenever I take anything out, I really try to make a mental note that I have to put it back right away in case someone comes.
good luck!

Re: feeling annoyed-what would you have done?
Realtors are sneaky...sometimes they swing by thinking no one will be home.
I will NEVER forget (and mind you I was just a renter in Long Beach) when one of my a boyfriend of my friend came over right when we were all moving out. he was like, "I was here like 4 days ago looking at this house...I didn't realize it was your place"
UM, HELLO....no one told us that they were even showing it...we had valuables and stuff out while we were at work. To make matters worse, my roommate was SLEEPING the whole time they were there and had NO IDEA that they were in the house!
Definitely call and chew someone out.

Re: feeling annoyed-what would you have done?
i would've made them stand outside while i called my listing agent and/or the office. its unacceptable that they show up unannounced. and while making the call, i would've tidied up. it wouldnt make you look bad to the buyers, it would make the agent bringing them look like an idiot.
i think im also too paranoid of a person to let them in without a confirmation from the office. with all the wackadoos in the world right now, i'd be skeptical to let in someone who didnt have an appt.
for future reference, REA's must carry around their pocket card. its an ID card issued by the department of state and ALL agents must have this on them at all times. Just say "i'd like to see your pocket card please since you dont have an appt". if they cant produce that card when the come knocking, then i wouldnt let them in. anyone can have a business card made. but a pocket card has their license # printed on it.
