Planning a trip to CA....
DH would like to go to Fantana in October to see the NASCAR race. We had already spoken and agreed about visiting San Diego.
So, my question is this, how far apart (put it in hours) is LA from San Diego, or the two from Palm Springs?
And lastly - what is the best airline to fly to CA to these cities and what is the best deal you have found online? Is $134/pp one way a good deal?

Re: Planning a trip to CA....
your best bet is to go into LAX. you can also check John Wayne, Long Beach, Ontario and SD, but we always found LAZ to be cheap and would drive up from SD and park our car, when we lived there.
SD to LA is about 90-120 minutes depending on where you are going...but beware of LA traffic - it is horrendous.
LA to Palm SPrings is about 2 hours and SD to Palm Springs probably 3-4.

Is LA traffic bad all day, or at certain times?

LA traffic is bad all day, but especially during rush hour(s). I've never driven from San Diego to LA (or back) in less than 2 hours.
Erica is right about LAX - you'll probably find the cheapest fares if you fly there rather than the other area airports, but Ontario airport will be closest to Fontana. Check JetBlue, they have direct flights from JFK to a few southern California locations, and the TVs make the long flight go faster! IMO, $134 pp is a pretty good deal these days.
