MIL Spinoff...
Do you ever worry that one day YOU'RE going to be the evil MIL???  I mean, these women have to come from somewhere, right?? 
Seriously though, if you have a son (the MIL-DIL relationship always seems tougher than the MIL-SIL one!) how will you treat his wife??

Well my mom tries to be a good MIL so I hope that my son would get a MIL like my mom.
My MIL isnt a bad person she is just clueless so I hope to be a good mom and therefore there are no underlying issues which would make me a MONSTER IN LAW
We can only hope, right. I swore I wouldnt be like my mom yet i find myself more and more like her everyday.

I have thought about it and I really hope & pray I am not like my MIL. My mom is not the greatest but she tries to stay as neutral as possible.

My MIL is a tough one. She does nice things - always remember my bday, bought me a gift when I graduated, etc. But she makes the nastiest commenst and can turn on you in a dime. I am not THAT kind of person but I am sure I will do something to be a monster in law!

Goodness, that's a scary thought. I hope I don't become the evil MIL someday. My MIL is wonderful and my DH is happy with my mom as his MIL (which he should be, she likes him better!  )
I have trouble hiding my dislike for people, not that I am openly snide but I am not overly nice either. I need to work on that.

mine' s not evil- she just doesn't live in reality
and has this fixation that my husband loves my family so much b/c my Dad gives us money- not sure why she would think that- he has lent us money- but we are not on the payroll

I have no fear of becoming her. I couldn't possibly be that heartless.
I try not to think about my boys getting married yet... they're only 2 1/2 and 7 months. I can only hope my FDILs don't post "My MIL is a witch" threads on LIF.

You know, I definitely agree it's a difficult relationship! There's a certain balance that you have to strike, and it's not easy!!! It's been interesting to watch my mom with my SIL. I think my Nan is definitely the best MIL anyone could ever hope for, so I try to learn from her! Hopefully one day I'll be like her

I'd try not to meddle, and not to be "friends" with my DIL. I hope I can be warm, but keep a healthy distance so they can do their own thing.

My MIL is green with envy. Her marriage to my FIL was awful. I know it is different but right now, I try and be the best possible SIL to my brother's SO. Sometimes my mother gets moody with her and i intervene immediately. I think if my marriage stays the way it is I won't be an evil mil with a hidden agenda.

Maybe she is really trying to not be annoying . I would be afraid that to open myself up to a friendship with a DIL would mean hearing "secrets" or things about my son or their relationship that would leave me wanting to give an opinion, and then butting in where I don't belong.
I do think there is a way to be interested though, like in non-relationship matters, like the news, books, movies, home stuff like gardening and decorating etc.
Personally, my MIL is all about herself
