WOW - Hair and Makeup!
I looked into a few people that have been recommended for makeup for my wedding day in October. Three people each charged $750+ 
I think this is crazy...maybe I am naive but I must look further.
Anyone have someone to recommend for hair and makeup who would come to NYC in October?

Yeah, I had one quote like that and was too.
M I A came to me in NYC (Manhattan) and did my hair and makeup for my October 07 wedding. At the time it was $300, but I *believe* she's now charging $400?
Also, Oksana who is a vendor on LIW is in Astoria and I would assume she would travel to Manhattan - she did my friend's hair and makeup for her October 07 wedding and it came out great.

i used an amazing girl, she lives in manhattan and works in long island,
I think she charged me 125 or 150 for my wedding, i also had 2 trials, i think she charged 40 for the trial, the 2nd one was free.
She did an excellent job, She also didnt have a minimum. which was great.

I used Maureen Pedela and loved her -I hate her website, but tons of LIW girls used her as well.

I used Ann DeMarco for makeup and she came into NYC for my wedding. She did an amazing job - she has her own studio in Manhattan and works also at a salon in Woodbury. She did my whole families makeup and everyone was thrilled.! Two of my closest friends used her too for their wedding.

I also used Mia... she was fantastic! She charged me $300 in May 2007 and she did my hair and airbrush makeup. For an extra 150 she did hair and make up for my MOH and my Flower girl too!

I agree, I used them for my wedding. Stacy is on the Lower East Side, and Sally comes from NJ but is pretty close to NYC anyway. Stacy has a package deal where she stays for a certain number of hours for one price. Sally is 325 or 350, I forget, for the bride and then for others I think it was 125. They both did great jobs.
ETA - These prices are pretty recent, my wedding was a few months ago.

IMO, if you opt for a popular LIW vendor, they will simply rob you...because they can. LIW brides have blown up certain vendors to the level of celebrity...(or at least low level celebrity) status.
I am sure if you look around, you can find great hair and make up for so much less and it will look amazing.
Where are you located? Maybe some of the former brides on these boards have some suggestions.
I am in Brooklyn, and I got my hair and make up by Helene: The Art of Makeup. I think they travel, but then it becomes more pricey (not 750 dollars pricey, though.)
Also remember that if you go to a salon, you will save so much money.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions!
I am talking with a few of the suggestions and will let you know what I decided. You guys have been a great help though.
My wedding is in Manhatten and the ceremony is in the morning at 10:30am so I need to be ready by 9am...this is the reason for having someone come to me. I prefer someone to come to my hotel so I don't have to do too much running around at 7am!
Thanks again and Ill keep you posed...any more suggestions are always welcome!

I just recommended on another thread Fresh Face Forward. They did my wedding, my best friend's wedding that was in May, and they're doing another friend's wedding next Sunday. They are completely reasonable and so willing to work with you until your hair and make up is exactly the way you envisioned it! They are a vendor on LIW and I'm pretty sure this is their website

My sister used Mia and her assistant and they were resonable. Very professional and came to our house dressed very nicely (since they will most likely be in some pics).
They did everyones hair and makeup and did an amazing job.

I used Maureen too and she was my favorite vendor I think. I absoloutly loved her. She was so calming and did my make-up the best I've ever had done. She also touched up my girls who did their own make-up for free which was very nice of her. I cannot say enough good things about her. She did my make-up, my mom, MIl, SIL and a few bridesmaids and was quick!

I uwsed Hooly from Avaiance (now my regular hairdresser!) and my bridesmaid did my makeup - as she did quite a few times in the years I have known her

Try Fresh face forward. I believe one of them is a makeup girl and the other partner does hair.
