Re: Back from Italy!!

So glad you had a GREAT time. My husband and I will be going in Sept. We are having some trouble arranging transportation from Rome to Positano. Any Suggestions? Where did you stay in Positano? I would love to hear any of your recommendations for our trip ! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
I can't wait to experience all the great sights and sample ALL the fantastic food!!!

P.S. Hoping that the dollar to Euro improves a little before Sept.

Actually we were based in Sorrento and took day trips (via ferries) to Capri and Positano. I highly suggest doing it that way as Sorrento itself was a wonderful "home base" (and easy to get to from Rome). Positano was GORGEOUS. I actually liked it better than Capri which I found a bit too touristy when we were there.
But from Rome you would take a train from Termini to Naples and then connect (bus or train). We took another train from Naples to Sorrento, but I'm not sure about Positano.
Where are you staying in Rome?

I was trying to avoid Naples Train Station simply because I don't want to carry my luggage up 2 flights of stairs Chat Icon I did read that we can take the train to Naples and then another train to Sorrento and then a ferry from Sorrento to Positano. We also inquired about a car service from the port in Rome directly to Positano, but they just emailed us back last night and they want 300 euros for 2 people. We are staying at the Hotel Cosmopolita in Rome, then going on a western med. cruise (RCCL) then 4 days in Positano. We plan on taking day trips to other towns (Ravello, Sorrento, Pompeii, Capri)

I highly recommend Benvenuto car service. The drivers are super nice, and speak english.

Otherwise, take the train from Rome to naples, then transfer to a LIRR type train from naples to sorrento, then hop on the SITA bus to Positano. This is really time consuming, but another way to do it.

I just thought, if you wanted to reduce the price on the car service, you could always take the train from Rome to Naples, then have the car pick you up in naples and take you to positano. That should be lots cheaper!
