HSG
Hi Girls, I'm going for my HSG on July 2nd and I'm pretty nervous. Can you honestly tell me your experience. Was it painful? Did it take long? Etc. Any info good or bad will help. THanks!

Re: HSG
I had one done in 2005 and honestly, it was horrible. They told me to take 4 advil an hour before the procedure but I got stuck in traffic (should have figured the summer in the Hamptons-duh) so I think the medication wore off already. It was a realtively quick procedure (maybe 10 min tops) but I was in agony the entire time. I went by myself which was a mistake and I had to go to work afterwards (also a mistake) and I remember walking to the parking lot crippled over in pain. I don't mean to scare you, I have heard others say it wasn't that bad. I didn't end up having any blockages so maybe it hurt because of the doctor that performed it? Anyway...the good news is I got pregnant two cylces later (this after trying for two years) so the pain was definitely worth it. Hope yours is a piece of cake!

Re: HSG
I had mine done about 3 weeks ago and it was really no big deal. The whole prodecures takes about 10 minutes. They insert a clamp to hold you open (just like the GYN uses) and then they insert a very thin catheter. Once the catheter is in, they remove the clamp and inject the dye. If there are no blockages, it flows in and out in about 1-2 minutes. They take some pics with the x-ray machine and that is that. You may feel some mild cramoing while the dye is going in. I did and it is really nothing. I am sure you had worse AF cramps. Once the test is over you lay there for a bit to let the dye run out. I would wear something you don't care about and bring a pad to wear home in case any othe dye leaks out. I did take 2 advil when it was over and didn't do much that day, but I was fine. Don't stress over it, it really isn't any worse than a GYN exam. Good luck!

Re: HSG
Some people on here have had no pain from it; others were not so lucky. Definitely take some pain relievers about an hour beforehand. I stayed home the rest of the day, but others on here have done it during their lunch break and went back to work. I think the procedure itself takes about 15 minutes.
Good luck!

Re: HSG
Just had one.
Waiting was the most anxiety producing part...bring a magazine. I took advil prior to the procedure.
The procedure itself is painless. Speculum, small catheter. They held my hand but there was no pain...only minimal pressure. I didn't feel it when they injected the dye. This all took maybe 10 minutes max. The dye took maybe 2.
However, after the procedure I had very bad cramps (much worse than AF). It started about 5 minutes after as mild & peaked at about 15 minutes and went away 1 hr after. I'm glad I didn't have to drive home.
I kind of hope/fantasize it was my fallopian tubes sore after popping open. I doubt it.
I wore regular clothes. They gave me a pad at the office.
