Installing a ceiling fan

Has anyone done it themselves? Was it hard?

DH and I might try to install one in our living room tonight. I've seen it done on TV and my dad do it. We don't usually attempt to DIY, we usually wait for my FIL or my dad to do stuff around the house.

We got this style in brushed nickel and will use the darker blades

Re: Installing a ceiling fan

Is there already a light ceiling fixture there? If so then yes it's not very difficult.

If you need to rough out a new electrical box and run wires, that's more difficult (but not impossible).

Re: Installing a ceiling fan

are you replacing an existing light fixture, if so, this is easy...you shouldn't have any problems if you know basic wiring which is included on the directions and on the fan it self in most cases...

if you want different switches for light/fan, still not complicated but maybe wire has to be run or something..depends on existing setup

Re: Installing a ceiling fan

Yes, there's a light fixture already there. I know we need to turn off the power at the breaker first. So hopefully it will be as easy as taking down the existing fixture, matching the wires and then hanging the fan.

Thanks!

Just be sure to get a safe-T-Box, from Lowes, or Home depot. If it is just a builder box, the weight of the fan could fall. But if you install a safe-T box, then you will be fine. They are pretty easy to put up.
